You can only play a game for the first time once.
That's why people don't always appreciate it when someone is trying to be helpful. Instead of just assuming that people want your expertise, I find it's better to ask if they would like your help first. Most people I know would rather experience things in their own way instead of having a rigid playing experience, and they don't mind if they die a few times along the way.
Especially since in most video games, there's no real consequence for dying. You just resume play from your last save and you're good to go. Or in the case of FFXI, you lose some experience and then make it back up again.
Playing the game in such a way that you just play to get things done turns it into a chore. Playing games is supposed to be fun, not work.
