Our model canceled on us last night at the Anatomy Drawing Group I go to. I was finally in the mood to draw too, after a couple weeks of no drawing mojo. I was getting ready to pack up and leave when one of the people who run it offered to sit in. He sat clothed for all the warm ups, but when it came to the last long pose of the night (same pose for 45 mins with a 10 min break in the middle), he offered to take off his shirt.
Here's where it got a little uncomfortable for others.
He's overweight and most of the drawing group were women. They were politely saying, "Really, it's OK. You can keep it on."
This kind of got to me. Being the little shit that I am, after a moment or two listening to everyone and the model's insistence that he was OK with it, I looked at the 'model' and said, "Yea. If you're OK with it, let's try it with your shirt off." I then turned around and said to the group, "I mean, this is an anatomy drawing group, isn't it?"
I mean, come on. Try drawing different body types. Even extremes. Geeze.
They're all fine with drawing overweight women and I totally enjoy it too. No complaints there, but on overweight guy is too much?
He stood still better than most of our models and it was a great study on larger males. Don't get me wrong. Nothing in the world like drawing a beautiful woman, and yes, I'd want to 99 out of a 100 times. I am a guy after all. But ya gotta try different things sometimes, and if you can't even in art, then just-give-up. :P
I feel my drawing mojo wasn't wasted. I know it's not what most people want to see, but it was a great exercise. I'm glad I stayed.

And here's another from earlier in the month. The other 2 sessions were just not there except for this 1 out of 30-40 drawings. Maybe because of the breakup between Melissa and I, but the mojo is back now. ;)
