That was wonderful to read. I'm always one of the people who is curious what JIB-newbies, especially if they are con-veterans otherwise, think so this was interesting. Creation con goodies I miss at JIB are Chris, Chris and did I mention Chris. The band (their addition IMHO helped to create a more relaxed fun spontaneous mood for the Creation panels, Rich hosting (although for Rome Sebastian would probably work well because of his language skills. not a fan of his panel-persona, but in small dosages he could be a good choice). I also prefer the m&g at Creation ones as they are longer with less people. So that was my Pro-Creation list. For Rogue (another European player that's been around for years) the list would contain low base prices and low prices for extras with smaller guests and the chance to see those smaller less known guests. I always say that every con has something I lile about them and that's why I go to so many different ones. That's how my total reaches past 20 by now (from the 3 mentioned big players to other European ones who didn't survive long )
JIB has that special place you mentioned before for me. In part probably because the first JIB was my first con and a big other part is the team behind it and the friends I see there. And I love love love that they have so many panels, way more than everyone else. You get most guests (incl. J2) on stage 3-4 times in different combinations, just with the regular panels. And especially if you don't buy many other extras you can just sit back and relax and watch them all day long. of course the downside to that is that you will miss some parts of them if you do have extras. but because you are free to choose which time slot you use for those extras you can also decide yourself what you are willing to miss. and with some thinking you can also minimize the time spent in queues waiting for something so you miss less of the panels. so I enjoy that. As for why are the guests so relaxed. For one - it's Rome! They are basically on vacation in Europe surrounding that weekend, all hanging out together instead of rushing backto work right after their job is done. The team is wonderful and very well loved. Especially the leading ladies are so passionate and involved, which you can already see the whole year leading up to it with the always open air for questions and insecurities, trying to take of everything possible with that special personal touch, always open for ideas and trying to maje things better and it's probably the same for the guests who they take care of that weekend. And one BIG difference between Creation and JIB which I think one can't ignore: Creation is a business trying to make money. JIB is a non-profit and passion-project just trying to cover the costs and make it the best-possible experience for everyone there they can. Which includes things like sticking to the smaller size to keep that feeling of family/intimacy although they could easily sell several thousand tickets.
Long rambling comment - sorry. The most important part is you had a great time and so did your hubby hopefully with this big roundtrip you two enjoyed. Glad I at least got to see you for a short moment (as in "attacking" you with an hallo from a stranger before you even arrived in the hotel.)
