Many of us know that if you watch season 1 of SPN on Netflix you don't get the same classic rock music that was aired with the season. I think I heard for whatever reason, that they lost the rights for the S1 music. S2 and beyond do have the right music on Netflix.
My S1 DVDs have the correct music. But I purchased them back in 2006.
I've a friend who is rewatching on Netflix and wants the original version. Here's the question. If someone buys the S1 DVDs *today* will they get the original music? Or will they get the *blah*/replacement stuff? I'm afraid that if they lost the rights for Netflix, etc, then any newly produced S1 DVDs would also not have the original music.
How can anyone watch SPN without Don't Fear the Reaper????!!!
Does anyone know?
UPDATE: Confirmed via twitter & FB:
From WinchesterBros: The wrong music only applies to syndicated episodes in season 1. The dvds will always have the right music. Its a contract thing. In s1, they only had the rights for the music to dvds and episodes shown on the WB. For all seasons after that, they got the rights for the music for the dvds, episodes on CW, and syndication as well as Netflix, Hulu, etc.
From RozeSPN: She bought S1 DVDs in May 2013 - it had the correct music.
Even Jim Michaels chimed in (although he didn't know the answer):
