Vancon 2012 :: Hotel Photos

Sep 01, 2012 15:49

I'm taking a break from the typical con photos.  Need to clear my head.  I think I'm going to concentrate on photos I took of the city and surrounding areas.   I'm starting with photos I took early one evening of the Sheraton where the convention was held.

I've previously posted photos of the hotel that I took at previous cons.   These are photos from our room in 2010.  We had a great view of the church and hotel courtyard.   My tags indicate that these photos here are from 2009.  The first three photos are of the hotel; the others are of the downtown area.

All of these photos were taken about 9ish at night.  I think on a couple of different nights.   All taken as our group returned to the hotel after dinner in the downtown area.

above ::  I *love* this hotel.  But HOMG is it expensive.    This shot shows the escalator in front of the front desk leading up to the 3rd floor where the convention registration and photo op areas were.  Of all the places we've had to wait in line for stuff, this is the most pleasant.  There are great views our the glass windows.   I think I took some shots during registration and other line-up times, so perhaps once I rediscover them, I may post some.

above :: the hotel has two towers.  This is the North Tower.  The convention hall is in the basement of this tower.

above :: the view looking over toward the back of the hotel from the fountain courtyard.

above :: the apartment/condo building you see in the background is the view we had this time from our hotel room.   Downtown Vancouver really loves their glass and steel high-rise buildings.   When I saw them in 2009 (I was in Vanc BC in 1984, but I don't recall the skyline of the city from that visit) at first I found them jarring somehow.  However, now I really like their appearance.

above ::  This Mom and her kid (I assume) were taking photos of each other.  I offered to take some of the two of them with her camera; which I did.  Later when I reviewed my photos I saw that I had also captured them in some of my shots.  I really like how they add to the image.

above :: cutie.

above :: Here you can get a bit more appreciation of the height of the North Tower (on the left).  The South Tower is on the right.  I believe Jensen used to live in the South Tower during the first season or two.

above :: More of the North Tower height.   I think I was better able to get the height in the 2009 photos I linked to above.

above  ::   The moon was out as we returned one evening.  I had to play around a lot with the ISO settings to try to get the moon as defined as possible.  The hotel South Tower is in the foreground.
