I was just reading through the flist and noticed someone did a great icon of the phrase "Okie Dokie." Which of course, put Nightshifter in mind. And my first thought was.... Wow, remember how we thought the boys were so screwed at the end of Nightshifter? And doesn't that level of "screwed" now seem like skinned knees on the playground

And you've got a good point. Since it's more "reality" based it does have a whole different level of punch.
I'm going to have to ponder this. I do know that the angst/depression I felt after On the Head of Pin and When the Levee Breaks was definitely harder or me than Nightshifter. But perhaps that was a cumulative "how much MORE can these boys take" effect just as much as what happened during the episodes themselves.
Rather than "cartoonish," I think I'd compare it more to what you'd find in a modern "graphic novel." Yeah, I know. A rose by any other name. But what can I say? I've always been a sucker for good vs. evil and/or epic "non-reality" mythology. (Or may rather than non-reality...perhaps "non-physical?"--Okay, I need coffee--I've no idea what I'm even saying even more!)
