My top 12 sexy male actors (because I couldn't get it down to 10)
This meme came to me via
fickleone ( her list is here) and
mrsr58 (which is here). And wow it sure takes a long time to put together. I haven't even looked at theirs yet because I didn't want to be influenced. Of course, 1 minute after I post this and/or look at theirs I'll think of 3-5 more that I should have included.
I had trouble with this meme. What makes a man sexy to me is not just his looks. Yes, sometimes I’m shallow enough that looks is enough. But if I know something about the individual...for example, that he’s a bit of a idiot or an egotist or something, then despite his looks, he will not be sexy to me. Also a man who may not be truly sexy in a purely visual way, may be very sexy to me because of his personality or some other aspect.
I tend to like darker men. Not so much the blonds, which is why you wouldn’t see Brad Pitt here. Yes Brad Pitt is drop dead gorgeous in a purely physical sense. And he may also be a great human being (don’t really know)--but for some reason, although I can “admire” his body (grin), he just doesn’t do it for me.
However sometimes I break that rule. Such as with Robert Redford. Definitely blond. But Redford has something on top of being physically gorgeous when he was younger.
I’ll admit that sometimes the reason why I find an actor sexy is not so much because of the actor himself--it may sometimes really be the character(s) he plays. I may find the actor himself to be just okay.
And as for the ranking of these men. Other than the top 4-5, I could probably reorder these multiple ways and still be satisfied with the results.

12. William Shatner. As I’ve said before, I’m a Star Trek geek and Shatner fan from way back. I first “fell in love” with Shatner as a little girl, both because of his looks and because of the character of James Kirk. As a young woman I was, hmmm what’s the word...disappointed?...in Shatner’s unfortunate 1970 to mid-80 years. He was taking himself a little too seriously I think. But sometime in his later years he stopped taking himself so seriously and started making fun of himself. I fell in love with him all over again as Denny Crane and as a mature man.
11. Gale Harold. I really hope
fickleone doesn’t stone me or something for this. But I’ve begun to believe that Gale falls into that category of actors I find sexy almost completely because of a role he has played. In this case, of course, I’m talking about Brian Kinney. Gale is very attractive, don’t get me wrong. But he’s a little too skinny for my tastes. But the character of Brian just wow’s me.
10. James Spader. Spader falls into that category of being sexy because of, well his sexy personality and his voice. While he is physically attractive, the force of his gaze and his voice are just mesmerizing to me.
9. George Clooney. I don’t really know that much about George Clooney. But he sure hits all my buttons in the looks department. Dark and intense.
8. Paul Newman and Robert Redford (Yes I’m cheating here). I just couldn’t pick between then nor break them up. Newman and Redford, Redford and Newman…they just go together. I find both of these men sexy for very similar reasons. They are both truly drop dead physically gorgeous. But on top of that, they are both supremely grounded individuals. They never let Hollywood get to them. They never took their gorgeousness nor their popularity seriously. Newman has been married to Joanne Woodward forever which is amazingly great. Redford went “behind the scenes” and not only took up directing but started the Sundance Film Festival to encourage independent film makers. And he has just let himself age naturally and as far as I’m concerned is still gorgerous. Newman has also aged extremely well.
7. Naveen Andrews. Again I don’t know much about Naveen. But before I found SPN, he and Josh Holloway were way up there on my sexy list. Naveen meets all the dark and exotic points for me. Plus his eyes are like liquid brown.
6. Gerard Butler. I’ve only seen him in two things and the first one, Phantom of the Opera, I didn’t even know it was him. When I saw PS I Love You..that was it. While Gerard is not dark, he is Irish. ‘Nough said?
5. John Barrowman. What can I say. John’s definitely on this list for two reasons. One is that I love Captain Jack-he’s very sexy. And two is that I love, love, love John’s RL personality. He is so alive and OUT there…and I don’t really mean in an out-of-the-closet way…I just mean that he is himself and that’s all. And himself is a very funny and entertaining guy. Plus? He sings! And does musicals---that’s more than enough for me.
4. Johnny Depp. Johnny is one of those actor’s who seems to disappear into roles. And on top of that he’s got this rebel, counter-cultural kinda sexy going on.
3. Josh Holloway. This man may be blond-but man he is totally to die for gorgeous. When I went looking for pictures of these men to post with this, Josh was the ONLY one that I immediately found the “GUH” photo. I felt like I didn’t have to look for any more than this one.
2. Jared Padalecki. Until Hell House I wouldn’t have put Jared up very high on this list. And then I also learned about how and who Jared is in RL. All that combined into making him on almost the top of the list. Before that he just seemed way too young and way too skinny.

1. Jensen Ackles. Naturally. This man is just absolutely gorgeous. Plus he’s supremely talented. Plus he’s down-to-earth. Plus he’s just a nice guy. I feel like anyone who’s reading this would already know all the reasons why both Jared & Jensen are in the #1 & #2 spots. So I shouldn’t have to say anything more.
*Sigh* I could go on, and on, and on....
And then there were some honorable mentions. Guys that were floating around on my potential list, but just didn’t get “above the line.” In no particular order:
