Character name: Nia Teppelin
Fandom: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Timeline: Just before the timeskip
Age: 14
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Pretty much none. In the movie she's able to summon a giant ass fuck huge mecha through willpower, but that was in a special area. And I really don't think a scenario that intense would ever happen in game. SO.

How would they use their abilities?: She won't.

Appearance: Nia is of average to tall height - taller than Simon at first, but he's short. She has pale skin and long, poofy blonde hair. With blue shading in spiral patterns. It gets shot off and cut shorter, but stays two-toned. Her eyes are also crazy weird! She has blue eyes with pink flower shapes. She wears all pink, and used to wear a fancy cape and lots of gold jewelry, but has since downgraded to a hoodie.

Background/Personality: Humanity is capable of amazing things! They move forward, press past failures and deaths, and evolve ever upwards!! And also have a chance of activating the Spiral Nemesis if they push it too far.

To keep them from doing this, the Anti-Spirals, an alien hivemind, come kill all humanity if there are more than a million people living on the surface.

So! Lord Genome fought the Anti-Spirals and lost horribly. So to keep humanity safe, he imprisoned everyone underground. He created beastmen, without spiral DNA, to keep the surface cleansed of humans, and then there were giant robots and blah blah blah.

But of course, there is rebellion! Yoko and Leeron and various other people!! And after falling through the ceiling to their village, they pick up Simon and Kamina. And they fight people and blah blah blah, then Kamina dies and Simon enters a depression.

MEANWHILE FOR FOURTEEN YEARS Nia has been raised in the spiral tower, being served by beastmen and kind of doted on by her father? We don't know much about this time, but it's clear that she played sports, was familiar with the beastmen, and never went outside. She also had no awareness of the outside world - which was just what Lord Genome wanted.

When Nia asked him why she had been born, he locked her in a box and threw it off a cliff. That's not a joke.

Luckily, Simon witnesses this! He kind of gets thrown down the cliff and Lagann, his mecha, stops responding. So he heads over to inspect the box. There's a hole for his core drill, and he opens it. After nearly a full episode of dulled dark colors and rain, the weather clears, and as Nia introduces herself, the sunlight breaks through the clouds around her. Simon, who has been nothing but sad and angry, blushes and stutters shyly.

SO BASICALLY it's not even remotely subtle at all.

Anyway, she introduces herself, speaking formally, and clearly unaware of everything. She's excited to see rain, and feel mud between her toes.

Then the mecha that knocked Simon down almost kills them. Simon is intent on defending her with nothing but a drill, since Lagann won't respond, but she reminds him to run away - the same way Simon had to remind Kamina that sometimes you have to run.

So anyway the day is saved and they go back to meet everyone, hand in hand.

Nia... Instantly wins everyone's favor. At first they try to interrogate, but she doesn't understand difficult foreign concepts such as being threatened or beating people up or fists. And she's so polite and pleasant and friendly (and pretty and cute) that they all kind of get over it.

She also wins them over by running out into the middle of battle and going "ARE YOU NOT AWARE OF WHOM I AM?!" as if she actually was anyone important anymore. She questions her father's choice to keep everyone underground, although at this point they don't know why, and decides to stay with them.

The only one who remained wary of her is Yoko. Nia may have said something that was just what Simon needed to hear, but in the end, she was tactless and very rude. Nia came in and started talking bluntly right after the death of their comrade, bro, love interest, etc.

Plus she's getting everyone's attention and being fawned over and is just too unnaturally sweet. SHE'S NOT EVEN A BUSTY SEX SYMBOL YOU GUYS GEEZ.

But then in battle, Nia is held captive. Adiane, the villain, taunts Yoko that she might shoot Nia if she tries to snipe, but Nia is just like "naw it's fine," and trusts Yoko completely. As a sign of their new friendship, Yoko destroys Nia's hair by shooting through it.

So, now on good terms with everyone, we learn that Nia is a terrible cook. But Simon loves it. And then... We go off to fight her dad.

And after a long battle, the Gurren Brigade is victorious, Lord Genome is defeated, and leaves them with the warning that when a million inhabit the surface, the moon will become a messenger of hell.

But everyone except Rossiu is like "LOL WHAT HAHA" and pretty much ignores this for the next seven years.

I'm taking Nia from here, but it's worth noting that:

- Yoko takes off, and according to the movie, only kept in contact with Nia. They really are friends even if it didn't get much screentime. This may have just been because the beginning of the second movie was narrated by Nia and they didn't want to cut out the teacher bit with Yoko but WHATEVER MAN WHATEVER.

- Nia writes a diary addressed to Kamina. She also says her dream is to cover the desert-earth with flowers, planted herself.

- Nia is pretty much Simon's housewife, although they don't marry until the final episode. In fact, when he proposes to her she initially cheerfully tells him "No!" because she didn't understand his metaphor of becoming one person. THAT WOULD JUST BE IMPOSSIBLE SIMON, GEEZ.

- And then Nia is an Anti-Spiral Messenger. Because they put their messenger... seeds.... I guess... Into random beings born on the surface, and no one was born on surface except for Lord Genome's daughters, it was kind of like choosing from a random group of ONE PERSON. The Anti-Spirals admit that it being Nia was coincidence. (As a side note, this would sort of explain why Lord Genome killed all his daughters before they got too old, since he knew about the anti-spirals...)

- ANYWAY so she becomes a hellbringer and giant mechas attack and politics get fucked and everything is terrible and the Earth will be destroyed and Simon is in jail and Nia keeps harassing him about ABSOLUTE DESPAIR.

- He saves her anyways, with everyone's help punches Anti-Spirals in the face, drills them, HIS DRILL IS THE DRILL THAT WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS, etc.

- She and Simon get married and their happily ever is like in the negatives because she dissolves into geometry shapes right after they kiss. Destroying the Anti-Spirals meant destroying her.

- THE END

Ummm so basically, Nia is incredibly naive and sheltered. She treats everyone kindly if not a bit... Tactlessly and bluntly. Like how she basically flounces into this established group of people and announces to Simon that Kamina is dead, so Simon can't be Kamina, obviously. Even if it was what he needed, and even if she meant the best, that's just rude. Oops.

At her core... Nia is a sweet, caring girl, who really wants to help out. She was tactless because she wanted to help him feel better. AND because she did not understand what he was going through in the slightest. She defenselessly ran into battle. And even being unable to fight, she felt obligated to do something to make herself useful.

Unfortunately she chose cooking, which she is terrible at.

But anyway.

Nia seems like a generally shameless and honest person. Because the series is about BURNING MANLY SPIRIT, she sometimes has to give passionate pep-talks with lensflare from her fingertips, turning towards the sunlight regardless of which direction the people she's talking to are in, and up-skirt camera angles.

She probably genuinely wouldn't understand the point of lying, but she does fake things a bit. Each time she's kidnapped, she firmly declares that Simon will come for her, brave face to the end. And when he shows up she promptly bursts into tears.

Nia is happy about learning and experiencing the world around her. She's excited each time she learns new things, and questions everything around her. She doesn't get embarrassed at having to ask what obvious things mean, and usually seems pretty confident... In her incorrect assumptions.

Having been raised as a princess keeps her very formal and polite. She speaks without contractions and tends to use big words and fancy sentences... Even while she has to question smaller words and concepts. Simon comments, when she's the terse anti-spiral, that one of the things he loved about Nia was that she tended to ramble. Nia gets distracted while talking and likes to express everything she's thinking once she's talking.

She's perfectly capable of staying quiet, but if her mind wanders and she's already talking, she'll just ramble.

Her relationship with Simon is a very big focus on the series - if he hadn't found her, she would have died, and later, he fights for the world, both of them knowing she'll die.

She pulls him out of his depression by placing endless trust in him. Nia will believe in Simon FOREVER. NO MATTER WHAT. And even if she somewhere, somehow, deep inside herself, starts to doubt that he's going to come rescue her, she will never say it out loud.

She doesn't lie and probably doesn't quite understand what the purpose of doing that is if you tried to explain it. But when she's kidnapped, she puts on a brave face until Simon saves her and then promptly starts crying.

But that's more from latent fear of the current situation than any doubt in him. Nia puts all her faith in people pretty much the moment she meets them. She did it with Simon, with Yoko, and with the rest of the Great/Dai/whichever you want to say Gurren Brigade. (Although in any sort of team versus Simon situation she will ALWAYS take Simon's side.)

Yyyep. That about covers it.

Have you read up on how the game works?: The network is the FlamingFerret and Nia can steal, work on missions and jobs and stuff, or mooch!

1st person sample:

[ Nia doesn't really understand the guide, but she's read whatever tutorial she could find, and manages to turn it on without trouble. She sets it down on a table, backs up until she's properly in frame. She smooths her skirt and gives a small bow!! ]

I am pleased to make your acquaintance, everyone! My name is Nia. I have come from the planet Earth, which I understand has been destroyed.

This is something I intend to fix. Although I am... Rather distraught... I also know that it is important to face forward! Our worlds may be rebuilt, and though it seems difficult, it is important to do your best! I, too, will do my best!

In the mean time, I have been learning very much! I have learned, for example, that there are many things in space beyond the moon! [ THIS IS AMAZING INFORMATION EVERYONE ]

3rd person sample:

Nia was ecstatic. The Guide seemed somewhat similar to the technology within Gurren Lagann, but with many more aspects. She had only learned the basics of communication on it, but even so, it was thrilling. Not many others had been as excited about the news on outer space - most had already known. Nia, of course, thought this was just as exciting.

There were many people to learn from, and many things to learn about. What she had said over the Guide was true; she was upset about her planet. But she also knew that the people were not weak, and that lingering would do her no good.

So Nia stood by a window, hands against the glass, and stared wide-eyed at the stars.

"Excuse me," She would begin, every so often, grabbing anyone passing by's attention. Then she would ask questions - whatever crossed her mind. "Do you know how many stars there are?" "Why is that star brighter than the others?" "Do you know the name of the stars?"

Most were helpful, but even when she was shrugged off, she smiled after them and took no offense.

She had been at this for hours, sometimes asking questions unrelated to the stars or space - instead asking about people's worlds or the work available to restore her own.

"Soon," she decided, "I suppose I shall begin searching for my room."

Questions?: None!
