Just came back from my first day at a two-week animation portfolio preparation course...
It was awesome!
After arriving an hour early (by accident, of course) it got rolling. We brainstormed three keywords for a short film idea (mine's were superhero, volcano and monster OR alien, spaceship, alien toilet). They were jumbled around until we got someone else's. We then concocted ideas based on these, read them out, and worked on the story further, also sketching. The instructor, while we were doing this, showed us, in groups of four, the principles behind twos in animation (that of using the same frame twice to save time, money and effort). He finished up by telling us what was on tomorrow. We had break and a lunch hour as well.
Mine basically involved an explorer on a jungle exploration seeing a banana. He goes to take it, but finds himself stuck in quicksand. A passing proboscis monkey sees the banana (his eyes light up with bananas) and he swings in and saves the explorer. Afterwards, he gestures to the banana, the explorer hands it over, and the proboscis monkey leaves. The explorer looks at his bottle of alcohol, and tosses it aside, shaking his head as he leaves.
At one point, I was talking with some others. It was such a relief to be able to talk about animation openly! I even drew some Powerpuff characters from memory! Buttercup was near-perfect, Mojo was pretty accurate, Arturo was decent, and the Amoeba Boys came out awful (they're harder to draw then they look!)
Obviously that's Mojo on the left (right for me, as this is mirrored), with Buttercup below him, Arturo beside, and the Amoeba Boys there.
