Well, I'm renovating again. I've begun work on the dining room, at long last. This past week I've been burning leftover paid time off, and I haven't made as much progress as I'd hoped (or fantasized), but the project is definitely begun. I'm pretty psyched about it.
The good part of all this is that the dining room is a relatively small task- far far simpler than the kitchen or second floor bath, which were my last two projects. The bad part is that it's right next to the kitchen, so dirt and dust and drifting through. Hundred-year-old plaster is just messy; there's nothing to be done for it but endure. I hope to finish the gutting part tomorrow or Friday, though, and then I can clean things back up.
So I've got to finish a little gutting and put up some insulation and drywall, and I'm going to hire someone to drywall the ceiling (because I can't do that alone in any case). And then I've got to paint and lay a hardwood floor. Pretty straight forward as these things go- no electrical work, no plumbing, maybe a little structural reinforcement around the window but that's it. At some point I'm going to start asking everyone for color and decorating tips, just like I did for the kitchen.
Anyway, that's the story. And once I have a kitchen *and* a dining room- house guests!
