"Bonderman Fellows will undertake international travel for eight or more
months, experiencing six or more countries in two or more major regions
of the world. Fellows will focus on exploration and discovery, learning
about the world and themselves in it.
Up to five graduate and five undergraduate Bonderman Fellowships will be
awarded in Spring 2006. Each Fellowship carries a $20,000 award for
extended international travel. Fellows may not conduct research, pursue
an academic project, or participate in a program."
No good reason or places I want to see, but isn't the opportunity to
see the world a good enough reason? I don't see why they should pick me
over other people (except maybe that I want to be a high school teacher
and maybe I could say that it'd be really interesting to see different
modes of learning and to bring back unique experiences to my students, maybe),
but I want this. Initial ideas
- Go to every single continent (including Antarctica) and look at
the most extreme or diverse areas whether that be biologically or
culturally diverse
- Trace the same path as a famous person (e.g. down South America's coast like Darwin)
- Travel very rural places or places where technology is just being
introduced and end in Tokyo, Hong Kong, or some other super advanced,
fast-paced city. Hellloooo, culture shock!
- Go to countries in the midst of big celebrations/festivals (e.g.
Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago, running of the bulls in Spain, Chinese
New Year, Ramadan in the Middle East, etc.)
- Religious theme - wailing wall, Vatican, Buddhist temples, Shiite temples, shamans...
- The seven seas, which is apparently really nine seas (think Europe, Mediterranean, India)
I need to study instead of dreaming about travelling the world!
