Resentments....so lame they are. Why do human beings hold so many grudges? What good does it do to stay pissed off at someone....ANYONE?!
Sure, part of my view may come from the many resentments I have caused for others at some time or other during this lifetime.
I have just always been able to say "AHHHH!" and get over it....wait....I'm lying....kind of. Yes, it took a long time to get over the emotional abuse I had as a child. My dad who was alcoholic and involved with organized crime, the step-dad that was heavily involved with the illegal drug trade, even the guy that raped me three years ago while I was passed out drunk (yeah, I said it)....
I could list a hundred other resentments that have built over the years but it's completely and TOTALLY a wasted energy.
What good is this doing for me if I hold on? Should I base my life on all the times people have wronged me or seemed to have wronged me?
There was a time in my life that instead of dealing with pain, I chose to just add it to my everlasting self-pity list and do what the rest of the world did or continues to do... "Poooor Mike, he has had such a rough life....I'm not sure how he has handled it all".
That is just not an option for me today. Today, I can forgive and although it's not always easy at times, it is A LOT easier to forgive than to go through life pissed off at the world and my life's situations.
Some of the greatest teachers, leaders, minds and philosophers spoke in great lengths of forgivness, from Jesus Christ and Bhudda to John Lennon and Allen Ginsberg.
By learning the process of forgiving...working through the process of forgiving...I have found a peace inside myself
that has rarely ever existed during my life.
Through forgiving, I have learned compassion. Compassion toward people, places, and things that I never would have ever imagined having compassion for in the past.
Compassion combined with peace along with a few other ingredients such as purpose and surrendering create an amazing state of being.
I firmly believe that we are not physical beings that have spiritual experiences but that we are spiritual beings having physical experiences.
Namaste to you all...
