This is a picture of a fantastic band called Awesome Color.
We interviewed them back in December, I think it was, and we have sent them copies of Smear every month since then.
When they played Sunday night at Emo's, they gave the Smear crew + Brianne free t-shirts and records. Before departing for our sleepover, we all exchanged phone numbers.
Next day, Monday. Raining and gray. Dropped Gracie the dog back at her owner's apartment, and went to Sound on Sound to meet up with the Colors. Record shopping ensued, then we made tracks to Flightpath. It was determined that Awesome Derek was the king of doob rolling, so he rode in the car with Lissa and me. Awesome Allison and Awesome Michael drove the minivan behind us, as we led the way to Barton Springs.
Obviously, due to the rain, it was closed. Luckily, the free side was uninhabited except for a few blue herons and many angry ducks. We ditched the bondages of civilized life (clothing) and dove in. The water was actually a perfect temperature, and the light drizzle added to the exotic feel of this swim-date. Awesome Derek, lacking either a bathing suit or the temperament for nude swimming, stayed ashore, smoking fag after fag. Once we'd had enough splashing, we lit the doob and dressed ourselves.
We split into camps- Derek came with me back to my apartment for some R & R before their show later that night, and Allison and Michael went with Elissa to her apartment for some light Mario Kartin and zorching. I went to work, and tapped my foot impatiently for the entire 6 hours.
At around midnight, I zoomed over to Ego's parking-garage brawl bar, where Awesome Color had played. As might be expected from a bar with a stupid name and hidden location, the doorman was nowhere to be found, and no IDs were being checked. Michael and I played a few games of pool while the rest of the crew downed alcoholic milkshakes. We once again split and made promises of tomorrow.
Tuesday- took Derek to Austin Diner, I do not recommend it. The band convened upon my patio, to say our farewells, and that is where the above picture was snapped.
