This was soooo not how I had planned to usher out the old and welcome in the new... cut for probably length and a little self-indulgent whining
So the plans had been to be with the in-laws on Christmas eve (in town) and my family at our place on Christmas day. House was about 90% clean and ready, including finding the actual surface of the dining room table and clearing it (no, we did not find Jimmy Hoffa or Amelia Earhart in the process). Made it to the in-law celebration but nasty drive home. My family, since we are all in town and do get together semi-regularly, decided to postpone things on Christmas due to the blizzard. Good Call! We all touched base on saturday about getting together then but as one sister is in MO and her street had not been plowed (still hasn't, but at least it is packed down now) and the other has a steepish drive, plus my almost 84 yr-old mother who we did not want to fall, we decided to wait for the New Year. Himself kept up with the shoveling, housemate and I did some cooking, and I tried to ignore the headache that had been building since late Christmas eve.
That got a little harder saturday afternoon with chills that sent me under the blankets and digging out the thermometer. To make a long story short the temp kept spiking, the rash from this summer reoccured, and himself was driving me to the doc as soon as they opened monday am (I did call the answering service on sunday afternoon and talked to the oncall doc, they won't prescribe anything without seeing you. Time to get my PC to put a note in my file...). Shot in the butt and script in hand I was sent home with instructions to come back the next day. Temp spiked at 103+ monday AM but by tuesday AM I was able to keep it under 100 with the help of tylenol so I thought I was doing good. Nope, rash had spread and since it was on the left hip, where the titantium is, they slapped me in the hospital for some IV antibiotics. Sigh. Hospitals are bad enough when you are on post-surgery drugs. I wasn't so I really didn't get any sleep. Fortunately the IV stuff kicked in after 3 bags (I know, baa, baa, baa) and I was sent home after only 27 hours. No temp since then but no energy either. Sigh again.
Did get out to enjoy a nice quiet early dinner on New Year's eve with duncanprime and spouse, which was great as we don't get to see them much with time to just visit. My to-do list at home, and at work, for that nice quiet week between Christmas and New Year's is a total loss however. Hoping to get the work list a bit caught up today but will probably have to miss Crown with things I still need to do this weekend. The weather had better cooperate for QPT!
Speaking of weather, the cats have been sticking to us like glue, especially the little black and white one. She discovered that the laundry basket is closer to one of the furnace vents so now if she can't be on our laps, she is nesting in our dirty underwear :). We don't usually have a problem with pipes freezing but this is just the type of weather we have had a little trouble with in the past so at least two faucets have been on steady drip for a couple of days and will continue to be through the weekend. Himself did a marathon job keeping the driveway and parking area clear enough that we can safely manuever 3 cars around without getting stuck. And the joints really appreciated being the one with the warmer car this morning (I got the garage!). Thanks Dear! Now back to work.............
