I hate parties. I really do. I hate the concept of kegs, loud obnoxious music, drinking to get drunk and talking with people I don't know. This is why I've always looked forward to Star Party. The one party I actually attend. It's strictly friends of Melissa, which also means mostly friends of mine as well. Now, the last 3 parties took place at Melissa's home in Delano, in rural MN. People camping out in the backyard, games, good clean fun. Not this year.
Due to Melissa's mom's illness, Star Party 4 was moved from Labor day weekend to Halloween, and on top of that, from Delano to Bloomington, from Melissa's childhood home to Ben's Bachelor pad (at least until their wedding :).
This year, Star party lost all of its charm. It's called invasion of the douche bags. Since Ben is in Chiropractor school, he has friends from Chiropractor school. Similar to law and medical school, (based on my own experiences) the general male population is either married, engaged or a complete douche bag.
It was basically a "who can get the drunkest, who can make the worst decisions, and who can try and compensate for something else" contest. It's disgusting and made me ill to be there. It was horrible. *sigh* I won't begin to describe the scenes that played out before my eyes but I just needed to comment that there is something about white men of privilege, and their ways of showing it that curdles my blood. I don't want to sound like a man hater, but there are certain guys that, uck. I don't even know what to say.
