Illinois

I HAVE A JOB!  I am the new Volunteer Coordinator at the Center for Women in Transition.  It's a transitional housing program for homeless women and their children.  I'm supposed to revive their volunteer program and implement new, more thorough training for volunteers.  I think it will be good.   I liked the people who interviewed me.  It's part-time which will be nice.  I'll have the flexibility to come home to visit and still be on the NCBI board.  So, hopefully it'll work out.  Alright, enough of that.

We are in Illinois.  We finally actually live in our apartment, which is basically a cinder-block hell-hole, but I put up some nice curtains and that helps.  It does come with free cable and internet.  Patrick likes his job and classes.  We have some friends, which is nice.  I haven't been doing much, but  I start work next week.

Illinois is strange.  Everybody talks about how people in the midwest are really nice, but here it seems like they are just being passive aggressive.  People are pretty condescending and the university housing staff have been quite rude every time I've talked with them.  We are living in Family & Graduate Housing (married student housing, basically) and we are the only Americans in our three building complex.  Most of our neighbors are Chinese, so Patrick is getting to speak some Mandarin.  We are also the only people without small children.

I think that's all for now.
