Hello Lady     lil!Donna masterlist

He was trapped. Locked in a room underneath the warehouse, guarded by two thugs. No windows, no vents, no escape. He had to think! Somewhere in his thick head must be a way to escape this room, evade the thugs, re-find the room with the Blinovitch Maximiser and shut it down. He could hear the machine whirring above. Think think think! That's it! He flung open the door, darted between the lumbering guards, and took off running down the corridor. He knocked over a stack of mostly empty boxes as he ran, deterring the already slow guards.

"That's not fair," on of the guards said in a voice as lumbering as his run, "Those are supposed to stay in a pile."

The Doctor just ran faster, quickly turning right and racing up a flight of stairs. He ran down corridor after corridor, the sound of the machine growing louder with each step and guiding his way. He whipped around a corner and into the machine's room.

"Ah, Doctor," the lady said, barely glancing up from the controls, "How nice of you to join us."

With a wave of her hand, more minions had restrained the Doctor off to the side.

"Stop! Please just stop!" he begged. She just laughed at him.

"Why on earth would I stop now? I've nearly won!" She glanced back at him, smirking, as she dramatically flipped the final switch.

The Doctor had no choice but to watch, helpless, as both Donnas in the machine began to glow. Lightning coursed around them. He watched in horror as their bodies began to stretch and contort. The younger Donna was looking away from her older counterpart, her arm had looped around itself and was almost reaching the innermost wall of the machine. When she reached it, sparks flew around her hand, and the lightning receded from the two Donnas and they began to regain their proper shapes.

"What?" the lady cried, furiously flicking switches. "No! This can't... Fix this!"

In the resulting commotion of minions attempting to please their mistress, the Doctor was able to break free and he ran to the machine. The Donnas inside were collapsed, conscious, but only barely. The original Donna looked like she took the least damage, likely nothing more lasting than a bad headache, while the younger Donna was in for much worse. The Doctor went to her first, and the other Donna joined him at her side.

"Doctor," the older Donna said, "What happened? I mean, what did she do?"

"She managed to reach the emergency shut down switch. Stupid thing to put inside a machine, but there you go. The machine's completely useless now." He brushed a stray lock of hair off of the injured Donna's face, and she looked up at him, blinking wearily.

"Doctor?" she said weakly.

"Hush now. It's alright. You were brilliant Donna, absolutely brilliant."

"What happens now?" she asked.

"Don't worry about that," he said, his eyes beginning to tear up, "Just rest now. It's over."

The young Donna closed her eyes and relaxed, and soon faded away. The other clones faded away as well, until there was no trace that any of them had been there.

"Doctor?" Donna asked, severely shaken at seeing herself sacrifice herself, and then all of herselves fade away into nothing. But before he had a chance to respond to her, the Lady was there, towering over them, all of her cool composure completely lost.

"How dare you! My plan was perfect!"

"Nearly perfect," the Doctor said, raging, as he rose to face her, "Now really, putting an emergency shut-down switch inside the machine?"

"The duplicates were under my control. Completely!"

"Another mistake. You forgot to factor in one thing."

"And that would be?"

"Donna Noble. Her strength and willpower replicated in every single clone. You couldn't control that."

"But I had - "

"A control chip planted in each of them," the Doctor interrupted derisively, "Yeah, cause that always works out."

"You won't get out of here alive. Guards!"

"Donna! Time to go," he said, and pulled her to her feet. They dashed out of the room, and he sonicked the door shut behind them.

They didn't stop until they were safely in the TARDIS. The Doctor immediately started to fiddle with the controls.

"I'll just leave a little tip for some nearby security officials. I doubt they'll like what's in that warehouse," he said. "Are you alright?"

"I'm... not sure," she said, "Did I just see myself die?"

"Not quite. When the other you shut down the Blinovitch Maximiser, she also shut down the core that was holding all of your clones to their rather unstable existence. The machine created them, and without it, they couldn't exist. It was a brave thing for you to do."

"I didn't do anything."

"She was you. Completely, one hundred percent, Donna Noble. Clone or otherwise."

"Yeah, I guess so." Donna said, not completely understanding, but understanding enough. "So what was it I told me about you and a panda bear? Care for a reenactment?"
