My Kit won a blue ribbon today, herding ducks. This is a triumph for us because she refused to work ducks until well over age 11. (Ducks can be a lot more intimidating than sheep.) I still don't know why she changed her mind! On a sad note, the trial pictures made it clear that she is becoming an old dog.
To relax on the way to the trial, I listened to a romance novel called "Ain't She Sweet." It turned out to be a little more intense than I expected, with a subtext about bullying. In fact, I feel certain that the love interest is a prettied-up version of Snape (with Lord Byron and Marilyn Manson thrown in the mix). He is an ex-teacher who was sarcastic and brilliant in the classroom. All his ex-students feel he was a terrible teacher, but agree he got great results. He has a stern, hard mouth. He has a huge, ugly nose, but it looks perfect on him (well this is a romance). He is a working-class/aristocratic blend. Oh yeah, he's British, too. The heroine, on the other hand, is a somewhat saner version of Anna Nicole Smith. She is also an ex-high school bully with a history with this teacher. It's all set in Mississippi. Needless to say, I'm finding it interesting.
