your pathological shallowness is going to be your demise

1. FLAILING. MY BOOKS ARRIVED.

I immediately grabbed Luca Turin's "The Secret of Scent" and randomly flipped to a page and realized I was too excited to read it properly. You know the joy when you read something so brilliantly articulate written by an evidently well-educated and immensely witty writer/industry insider? My heart was bursting with that joy. *__* I have the feeling I'd be worshiping at the Luca Turin's altar soon.

The second book I grabbed was Augusten Burroughs' "Dry: A Memoir".

"Advertising makes everything seem better than it really is. And that's why it's such a perfect career for me. It's an industry based on giving people false expectations. Few people know how to do that as well as I do, because I've been applying those basic advertising principles to my life for years."

- Dry: A Memoir (Augusten Burroughs)

Two pages in, and I knew I would be in love. I stayed up until 8 a.m. yesterday to finish it, and by the time the first light streamed past my curtain I was an emotional wreck. "Dry" is a story about a successful twenty-something advertising guy in New York who is forced into rehab by his co-workers for his alcoholism. It's a story about drinking, sobriety, love, and the prices that come with all three. Laugh-out-loud hilarious one minute, and tragically heartbreaking the next. I can't remember the last time I got that intensely emotional over a book. Augusten Burroughs is the kind of human wreckage that I love: functional, humorous, and inherently tragic. lol if anyone caught my overly trainwrecky review I wrote yesterday for it, pls excuse my hungover rambling.

I don't dare touch anything else because I don't want to be sucked in with the amount of assignment I still have. ;___; I have to keep yelling at myself to PUT. THE. BOOK. DOWN. because there are still a bazillion papers to finish this weekend. ;__; I definitely made A+++ life decisions in this batch of books though.

2. My bookshelf right now!

I can't afford to lug my book collection from home to the dorm 'cause I pack/unpack too often, so this bookshelf is sadly dominated by textbooks.

lol my giant textbooks of srs bsns.

My poor dwarfed leisure books.

3. ZHOU MI I CAN'T EVEN. What's the one book he buys when he goes to Thailand? FACEHUNTER. I really should have expected this, after The Satorialist. Srsly. I can't. ...Did he pursue amazon's rec list because Facehunter is the first thing that pops up after you search for The Satorialist. Also why did he think it was a good life decision to buy a Super Junior CD?

4. I've just had to read so much about stock markets, financial crisis, globalization, and economic growth for my paper, my brain seems to have solidified into metal. lol now when I open my mouth it's all long-term streamline strategies and cost efficiency. I mean, it's all very interesting stuff, I do enjoy reading about money-related things, but wow too much info at once.

zhou mi is a pretty flower, books, picspam, school is a chore, flail, rl, recs, in it for the show baby
