The end to the best week ever . . .

People often say "I don't know what I would do without [insert name]" without thinking about it. But in my case, I truly don't know what I would do without Shauna. I'm a very lucky guy to have such an amazing best friend. Cue the sappy violin music.

This has been an awesome week. It wasn't filled with touristy stuff, like many vacations to standard American destination cities can be. I spent most of the time just talking with Shaun, being lazy, drinking coffee, eating unhealthily, buying things we didn't really need, meeting her (cool) friends, watching movies, and feeling happy. We took a day trip to Portland, which was basically the extent of our energetic ambitions. No matter where I visit her, it always feels like home . . . there's never really any pressure to do anything but just be. That's a difficult vibe to facilitate with anyone other than a best friend.

And now I have to leave. *sigh*

I had intentions to get work done when I got here. In retrospect, that was probably the most unfounded optimism I've had in many months. So now the return to Madison is going to find me as stressed as I was before I left for Seattle. But it was worth it. This week was exactly what I needed. And even though I'm depressed to be leaving, I think I've rejuvenated myself enough to make it through the rest of the semester.

Thank you Shauna :)
