OOC: DREAM

A deck of cards lay in front of him in a pile, surfaces still unmarked and new. A spotlight bore down on him, lighting up his every feature. He shuffled the cards behind his back and above his head, putting on a show for his invisible audience, hearing them gasp in awe at his every move. Then he looked up. That wasn’t a spotlight, he realized-they were headlights. There was a driver, a woman with a swelled belly and flowers ‘round her neck. A curse barely left his mouth when it crashed straight into him, crushing him into, then straight through the ground.

He stared up at the hole his body made and caught his hat as it drifted down towards him, gasping with fear and adrenaline. The wheels of the car were still turning, the headlights still blinking, and a small hand fell through it. He hesitated for only a moment before turning tail and running through the long grass, impossibly green that shifted endlessly into sidewalk, the cracks large enough to swallow a man whole. He jumped over each one, all the while rubbing his fingers against the scars on his hands, watching with amazement as every blemish made way for flawless skin.

Suddenly, his step hitched, and he found himself tripping over a white dog, eyes staring dumbly at him as he toppled over the side. “Oh, fu-“

A hand caught him. It belonged to a woman with red hair and a missing tooth. “You will help me,” she said, pulling him up, and yanked him into a circle of millions. “Close your eyes,” she commanded, and he did.

Then, a whisper, “Open them.”

He saw a mushroom cloud burst from the ground, gasped, and saw no more.
