Fluff piece

The rules:

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

1. How'd you become interested in owning a comic book store? Was it a spontaneous decision, or something you'd dreamt of for a while?

I oozed into it over time. I was in grad school, and I wanted a part time job, and I have been a comics & games nerd for many years, so it seemed a good fit. So, I applied and started working part time. After a few months of getting a look at the place and the business model, I decided that I wanted to invest because a) I understood the business, and how I would earn a return on my investment, and b) I could affect how that investment panned out in a way I can't with, say, Exxon-Mobil, and c) it would be cool to own a chunk of such a store. I prevailed upon the other owners to let me buy in. Over time, I have worked more there, become more involved in the business, and now I'm the full-time assistant manager.

I never dreamed of owning a store. It was just something that happened, more something I glommed onto.

2. What do you enjoy most about living in Massachusetts?

Hmmm. I'm not sure how to answer that. I like the climate, with an actual summer, winter, and transitional seasons between. I like the lefty political consensus here: we're the only state with universal health care, and we were the first to legalize gay marriage. I like that people don't approach strangers and ask where they go to church.

3. Who is that guy in your icon?

Peter Sellers as the title character in Doctor Strangelove (or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb.) It's a stupendously funny Stanley Kubrick film, a comedy of assholery about nuclear war, human extinction, the Cold War, and masculinity. It stars Sellers (in three different roles), Slim Pickens, George C. Scott, and James Earl Jones. Go see it. Now. Seriously.

4. If you had the opportunity/funds to go back to school, would you? What would you study?

I would, if there was something I really wanted to study. I toy with the idea of going back for an MA in literature. Oh, wait: a foreign language. Spanish would make it a lot easier to speak to my in laws.

5. What types of D&D characters do you prefer to play as?

The guest star! I want to be the guy who's not like the other folks int he party. If they're happy go lucky adventurers, I'm the serious guy. If they're down-to-earth, I'm an alien. It's the compulsive narcissist in me.

Class-wise, to be specifically about D&D, I'm open to all the classes and races, especially in 4th edition. When it comes to the nuts and bolts of combat, I just want to be useful to the group, to have a moment to shine.
