Last night, I had just gotten to sleep when my cats became a little restless. One of them mewed, while the other paced along the wall. Then, I smelled it. Skunk. It smelled like it was right out side my window, but since I'm on the second floor, that's doubtful. I can only guess that a stray cat (or a drunk stumbling home from the bars) spooked a skunk close to the house. I hope my car doesn't smell.
Ah, the disadvantages of living a few blocks away from a creek. Reminds me of my childhood of walking to school and encountering skunks peacefully wandering about on lawns.
