Today I had my first class---as the teacher this time. I´m tutoring a lawyer in English an hour a day for the next six months. It´s actually decent money, and I´m starting another class with beginnner level students at the end of the week. Now that should be interesting. However, I left a lot of my grammar books at home and I´m feeling a bit naked without them. I´m going to see if LibriMundi has anything. I´m taking a TEFL certification class at the Politecnica starting in September, which will make me feel a lot better about my teaching skills. Plus I can use the TEFL in the States as a way to make a little side money teaching English classes to immigrants or foreigners.
I´m updating here in Gringolandia, as I like to call the Mariscal Sucre area. So many interesting folks from all over the world seem to gravitate to this little area of Quito. There are virtually no foreigners around my neighborhood, although I did chance upon two at an obscure internet place near my apartment. I can hear English in the background here! Such a nice sound!
I´m eager to start making some friends here. I did make friends with a fellow teacher with the institute I´m working for over the phone, but since we teach private sessions, I haven´t met him in person yet.
Well, off to the bookstore.
