Ohhh yesss, very good looking. Also, I imagine, good looking in goodness as well as manipulativeness, which suits the character if Dumbledore down to the ground don't you think? He has this weird Janus-like thing going on, different fans think different things about him, and no-one's really sure about his real nature. Personally I like to see the best in people, like Dumbledore himself, so I dont think that he is a 'manipulative, self-serving old man', which I have heard someone say.
What do you guys think?
Sorry if this is slightly off-topic, I guess I kind of tend to ramble. :D

Some of my friends really started hating Dumbledore after the sixth and seventh book, where I started recognizing him as my favourite character.
But yeah, mainly they complain about him being manipulative. And even if he menipulated things and people, it was in order to achieve peace and save lives Because if we remember his woderful words from book 1 - it is not your nature that decides what you are, but your choices. =D

Yeah, I must say that Dumbledore is one of my favourite characters.. Aside from.. Well.. Sirius, Remus, Barty Crouch Junior, Tom Riddle Senior. I have wierd taste in favourite characters I suppose, I just like the unusual ones, and the whole arc about Voldemort's childhood, I really love.

Anyway! The point! There was one somewhere :D
I wholeheartedly agree, I think Dumbledore is a very good man and has a lot of wise words that are really important to help us all with our lives, and well.. everything really. Im really glad I grew up with them actually, they've probably shaped my worldview massively because I first read the first one when I was about seven years old, so yeah. Wow, that has only just hit me really.
How old were you when you discovered them, and how much impact do you think the series as a whole has had on you? (If you dont mind me asking that is)

well i guess Albus is one of my favourite characters too (as well as Gellert and Sirius of course) i always liked him a lot, and i think that if sometimes he's a little bit manipulative, it's only for the sake of all of them, i mean, he's pretty smart,he knows how to do things, it's not necessary neither prudent,to explain everybody why you do what you do or why you make them do what you want them to, in the end, it's about really important stuff. I guess that this is the reason why some people call him manipulative.

And I, for one, i started reading the books when i was about 8, and i used to think about him the same way we think in a father figure, i mean, like strong, wise and invincible of course, so you can picture how i cried when he died; the series has had a big impact on me, many times i disagree with JK but i can't deny that her books completely captivate me and definitly i won't deny that i used to pretend i was sick just to go to the bathroom like 5 times in one class, of course with the book hidden in my uniform :)

Gellert! I do love him as well. Yeah, I understand- I mean, it's like..someone. says, when you're faced with the choice between what is right and what is easy, do what is right. It would have been easy for him to just give up everything, all the schemes and the plans.. But it's for the sake of everyone, not just himself. Its like Harry says to Aberforth, sometimes you have to think about other people, not just yourself ( ... )

Well Jk has this huge imagination, and it's a great history but from the point of view of literary analysis, it is not that great... sometimes the characters have a plot really poor, i mean, their conflict appears from the nothing or they don't have it at all,for example, one day Harry and Ginny are just good friends, and the next, he finds her irresistibly attractive; and also Voldemort, i think he's a very bad villain: he didn't know about Lily's old magic protection, about the twin Phoenix feather cores of the wands, he didnt know about the deathly hallows! God! everything goes wrong for him, at the begining he used to scare me, in the last book i just found him weak and loser, i remember that when Harry comes back from King Cross, i was just like "Omg! why he did not die?, What Voldy forgot this time?!" . Those kind of stuff ( ... )

I guess the whole anti-Dumbledore mood among my friends comes from fanfiction in which our Albus gets blamed for _EVERYTHING_ that happened...tz tz tz... which is why these days I start most of my HP-related discussions with "Dumbledore is my absolute favourite".
And I love Sirius too...and over time I've developed a very soft spot for Snape.

I was already fourteen when I caught up on HP. And I was, as I am today, completely thrilled by the books and the moral messages they hold. Which is why I was completely shocked to hear some parents complained about HP "not conveying any moral messages" O_o

Yeah, it's ridiculous there are so many moral messages- and ones that make so much sense, and are so good as well, really important for younger children to hear, in my opinion.
Aawww Snape.. I loved the image of him as a young child, with Lilly and Petunia and everything.
