I don't understand why the French and Americans don't get along, they're strikingly similar. Most French drink nearly flavorless pilsners, just like Americans. They not only think they're individuals, but they believe they define the term. Americans are fatter, grant it, but the French have tastier food. When the French admit to going to McDonald's it's with a sigh, "Sometimes I am in a hurry, and the food is cheap. I don't like to do it, but it's the best option. I can eat it as I walk, or take the train." Ask an American why he eats McDonalds, and it's likely because he actually likes it. It may be because most of the American fast food places here are dumps, they're practically vacant except for a few Americans whose "Big Mac Attack" button cannot be sated with anything that will spoil in under three days at room temperature.

That's basically what I learned so far in France, my first real sight-seeing days. The Parisians are just like Americans, but not as fat. And French women seem to work with their assets/beauty rather than fight against it. American women seem to be constantly trying to fit their square pegs in round holes, something I've never understood, where as the Parisians work with what they have remarkably well. There's no struggle to get into an inappropriately sized garment, nor do anything merely because it is "fashionable". They've clearly not picked their clothing from any catalog I've ever heard of, nor replicated any T.V. show I've ever seen. It's almost as if they believe, 'We are French, we are fashionable by definition.' I'm not sure which side of the chicken they're on, but it generally seems to work out.

I hear that French women are extremely vigilant about their appearance, and possibly quite nearly to the point of a neurosis. Though I must say, I haven't encountered a single unacceptable use of spandex or tight clothing, yet there's judicious (appropriate) use of calf and thigh high boots. I'm not sure that's great for them, but it's working out well for mio.
