Wake up and see the ... ants? termites? WTH?!

When the tags Probinsyana Life and Fail come together, it is testament to my urban upbringing.

I will be the first to admit that I was raised as a city chick. So, no matter how hard you may try to make me accustomed to probinsiyana life, I can adapt, but I will always long for nearly insect-free hallways and the pollution that comes with it. Tall skyscrapers, airconditioning, the roar of jeepneys - this means home to me.

I was forewarned by the dorm janitress and even by the students themselves, that before the rainy season comes, there will be swarms of insects visiting the dorm - and it wasn't limited to moths. There will be bees, ants, and things bigger than ants (termites?!). These things are, apparently, attracted to light (and I thought this characteristic was limited to moths and some other insects only, not bees and ants). So, what they did to prevent the swarm from coming in was to turn off all the lights.

I turn off my lights when I sleep (um, duh). But last night I didn't turn off the ones along the hallway. So, this morning, after I finished all my rituals and emerged from my room to break my fast, my eyes averted from the green that was before me, to the sight below:

You could just imagine, I was bent on cooking eggs for breakfast, but when I saw these bugs swarming on the kitchen floor and on the sink, I lost all motivation, and almost my appetite.

I was told that this was just the start. OHNOOOOOOOOOOOEEEES.
