I'll try and do this a bit differently. I've scouted for some memes on some blogs and I've decided to use one that
Tina used. I'll probably put comments along the way, just for kicks.
Instructions:
Take the first sentence (or two) from the first entry of each month and post it here. That’s your year in review.
January
It's been 12 hours since the new year, and I'm still reeling with this *insert picture*
January was, well ... an explosive month. Just when I thought I am on my way to full recovery from the redundancy and retrenchment that happened last September, I was surprised, yet again that I will be reporting the the country manager as his executive assistant effective January 26. What a blow that was. It need not be said that I felt very uncertain about it. I didn't like the job, I didn't feel that I was fit for the job, and ... well ... I just didn't like it at all!!! It was here when I got the feeling that this is likely my last year in MP.
February
I bought Berusayu no Bara today.
Aside from this series, I also got to watch Nana, Saiunkoku Monogatari (season 2), Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Inu Yasha, Naruto Shippuden (via Mark, but I watch sporadically) and Dragonball Kai this year.
February was when I started to feel most unhappy about the state of my job. I knew from that time on that I wouldn't last long, and I have to start looking for work that will suit me. Work that time can be described with stressful mornings, late lunches by my lonesome, tiring nights, and a bucketload of tears suppressed. Gadawful.
March
KARAOKE!!!!!!!!!
OL gimiks are the bomb, as they usually are. We had a fair variety of OL gimiks this year - karaoke, Ongpin tripping, mall hopping, spa days ... it was great.
March was when I started to have my physical therapy sessions for my back pain. It got really worse, probably due to the stress of work. So, weekdays can be described by doing the usual 8:30 - 5:30, then coming to Makati Med at 6:00 for my session.
April
Took two days off (yesterday and today) to go to the reunion yesterday. We have some relatives visiting from Singapore and Australia, so I thought it was worth taking some time off from hell work and go to the province.
Some of my relatives visited from Australia this month, so I got to play yaya on several occasions. This was also when the choir did the Hallelujah Chorus for Easter, and what an epic piece it was.
It was also this month that I felt that the climate was quite unusual. It usually does not rain hard during April since it's summer, but truth be told, I barely felt the summer heat this year due to all the rain that came starting this month. Little did I know that it was but a taste of what's going to happen five months on.
May
Please bear with me. XD
It was a triumphant month for marketing (last year's marketing, that is). My paper bag babies (along with the event that I did logistics for) got an award from the MP Global office.
Oh, and this was also the month when the Hayden Kho - Katrina Halili thing happened. Most epic line of this drama was Akala ko duktor, yun pala direktor! Bwahahahahahhaha!
It was also this month when there were two fires (in one day, mind you) that got too close to our house. It was a very traumatic experience, but we and our belongings survived.
June
THIS ENTRY. FINALLY.
My first entry for this month talked about the Not So Great, Yet Terrifying Singalong Fires of 2009. I remember missing the whole euphoria of writing, and the feeling from first NaNoWriMo win started to build up within me. I was itching to write again.
But for this month, I didn't.
I tried to keep my sanity during work, which was getting harder and harder no matter how I willed myself to get used to it. Prospects of a new job are getting bleaker, it kind of seemed like nobody wanted me. By this time, I've been told countless times that I should be thankful that I have a job. I tried telling myself that, but it didn't take away the hopelessness.
On a lighter note, I went to Baguio this month, which was three days of fun and cold. I also began my voice lessons, only to have a recital the next month!
July
I was strolling in Greenbelt this Monday waiting for 7PM (color coding) and when I was on my way to Greenbelt 1, I saw that the sky was still yellow, in stark contrast to the sky behind me, which was already dark.
By this time, I learned how to cool down from the stress of work by walking around Greenbelt. It's probably one of the advantages of having your office close to the mall, especially if Greenbelt is the mall. XD
I had my first recital this month, just after four weeks of voice lessons. I learned that this pace was not normal; I still wonder why Tita Puring allowed it, because while I was watching the others do their pieces, it felt like I was leagues away from greatness.
It was also this month when the itch to write was finally fulfilled. I finished after dark, 21K in a span of five days. I was on a high when I finished it. It felt awesome, and it was one of those pieces wherein I didn't care if the reader thought it was bad, or it didn't have a good-enough ending, cause writing it was just pure bliss.
I also watched my first Cinemalaya movie - it was worth taking the extra time. Aldo officially passed the Nursing board exam.
August
When she went to fill out her application for the presidency, Corazon Aquino had nothing to enter under OCCUPATION but "Housewife." The last office for which the soft-spoken widow ... her chief, if not her only, political strengths seemed to be her innocence of politics and the moral symbolism of her name.
A quote from Time Magazine's 1986 Woman of the Year. We lost Cory Aquino this year, aside from Michael Jackson last month of course, but this loss was closer to home and even closer to the heart.
This month, I raved about how I felt my writing is starting to stink. I don't know ... everytime I write something that I felt was readable enough, the immediate succeeding efforts somehow do not match up. It's kind of like ... a writing burnout, so to speak.
Oh, and this month, I created my FB account. *facepalm*
September
I can't resist ... MERRY CHRISTMAS!
And just like that, it was September, the unofficial start of the Christmas season in the Philippines. It would have been just an ordinary month ... that is, until Ondoy came.
What a storm that was. I mean ... just, unbelievable. It was a miracle that the house didn't get flooded, given that our house is in Manila.
We made things light during the heat of the storm through tons of photo sessions in Calumpit (where we were stranded, with no knickers, no change of clothes, no NOTHING), eating lots of food, and basically enjoying the company of each other. I imagine that if we were in Manila, we'd be most terrified. But even if we had a front row seat to the storm (we were in a farm), there was for me, this feeling of security knowing that the people I love and trust were around me. It's unexplainable.
October
Behind the bangs, the ugliness is revealed.
My skin asthma strikes again. On the face, this time, of all places.
While almsot everyone was reeling from the storm, I was reeling with my own constant companion. It comes out for no reason at all, and because of that I have to buy gadawful expensive medicines just to get by.
The rains persisted after Ondoy, and one typhoon after another came. By this time, everyone was traumatized at the sight of rain. Even I, who's usually happy when it rains, couldn't stand the sight of it at one point.
It was this month when I lost my lolo (Mama's side). It was something that we did not expect; it was truly saddening. It was also the month when I resigned and was accepted into my new job. Resigning for the first time was a very liberating experience. Before I did it I kind of wanted to throw up but after it was done, I just felt the biggest load being lifted off of me.
November
It is November! Before Christmas comes, NaNoWriMo arrives. And it's on like Donkey Kong!
NaNoWriMo, ugh! It was an utter failure for me despite reaching 50K. It wasn't quality work at all.
This month though can be summarized with The Big Binan Move of November. Because of the new job I now live for five days in Laguna, then go home to Manila on Friday night to spend the weekends.
And oh yeah, need I say this? Courtship is serious business. Sometimes, I feel like God is amusing Himself by pairing me up with random people, but well ... it's sometimes all right to let Him have His fun.
December
Last week I had a chance to talk to the dorm people about how the main campus was like, and I told them about this very bothersome statue in the Marian Quadrangle, which really cracked them up.
Still in the process of getting used to the new job, as well as the early Monday commute and Friday afternoon trip to home.
I got my first laptop this month - the S10, which I have YET to name. It's hard this time, for some reason, couldn't think of anything appropriate.
The last two weeks of this month was too busy, so I'm helluva glad that I'm spending the last day of the month at home.
Other highlights
- I lost weight this year. Like, more than 10 pounds I think. I'd attribute it first to diarrhea (LOL) which struck me on Good Friday, had me down for the count on Black Saturday, and had me singing Hallelujah on Easter sunday. Another one of those came, this time during May. On both instances I threw up like heck, and for some reason, I didn't get my weight back. It just went down from then.
- First date. And I know it's something to laugh about when I look back.
- Books: Grimm: The Complete Fairy Tales, The Constant Princess, The Other Boleyn Girl, Saiunkoku Monogatari (1-4), Johnny Angel, Captivating, One Month To Live,
- Movies: Transformers 2, Avatar (the rest I watched on DVD - Dragonball Evolution, GI:Joe, and a host of others)
- Games: Dissidia Final Fantasy (JP and EN), Patapon 2
So ... yup, that's it, pansit! =D It wasn't a bad year, even with Ondoy and the old job turning from bad to worse. It was an eventful 2009, and now I can say it was all worth the tears and sweat and sometimes, blood. XD
I'd love to post another entry but I think I'll reserve it for later midnight. This afternoon is loaded with cooking duty. And so I leave you with best wishes for the new year!
