I don't get no respect!! (Kids say the darndest things file)

I haven't made an entry in a while and I thought this was worth note.

A few weeks back I started commuting via bicycle. Several reasons and health being big one. I was bouncing around 240lb in February. Started adjusting my diet, Cut down the portions etc. Hit a bit of a plateau and started riding to get the exercise I need. I live 4.3 miles from work so even with the couple of really good hills along the way I can make the ride in 20-25 minutes. Down to 220-222lb now.

I got home after a pretty fast ride back from work today. It's HOTTTTTTTT out! Grabbed a towel pulled off the sweaty t-shirt in the living room trying to cool off and stood under the A/C vent. Slammed down about 1/2 liter of water.

My youngest(7) Is sitting watching TV.

So I ask her "so do I look skinnier?"

She kind of gets a funny look on her face looking at my still rather round belly not knowing what to say.

I tell her "its OK you can be honest."

So she replies "You should probably ride again tomorrow....with a big dog chasing you."

I just don't get no love! LOL

Any local friends want to hit the Silver comet or any of the Atlanta bike compliant paths let me know! I'm game.

General life update.

I have been flipping my Bikes around. The Schwinn I picked up a few years back for peddling with the kids was too small for me as a commuter. Just could not get the seat high enough from my long legs. I resurrected my old Peugeot that my friends from about 15-17 years ago may remember or even more recent as it spent a lot of time in the corner of my living room and put it back into service. Brakes bring the suck, skinny tires and my fat self were making for a rough ride. People are assholes so I spend a lot of time jumping curbs since jackass will stop right in the middle of the cross walk and block it never even looking to see if somebody may be on the side walk trying to cross.

So I sold the Schwinn and bought a older Cannondale M400 mountain bike to make a big tire Hybrid / commuter. It is aluminum frame and a full 9lb lighter then the Schwinn and before moding was right at 27lb. Gears are a little low for a street bike but workable. Put a low void high durometer tire on the front for less rolling resistance and a locked center tread AT tire on the back for lower rolling resistance on the street and still be able to off road it some in dry conditions. I love this bike. It kicks ass and surprisingly fast.

As a commuter I have added a rack because the back pack in this heat brings the suck. Soon a pack that locks onto that rack for my junk and lunch I need for work and hitting the Grocery on the way home for those little things we always seem to need between big shopping trips. It is going to get a set of "Freddy Fenders" from Planet Bike and probably sooner then later. My water bottle is always covered with crap kicked up off the tires.

Those that know me know this bike is a good representation of my personality with the flat black paint and I even found a helmet with Skulls on it. :)
