HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, INDONESIA!!

After being under the Dutch colonialism for three and a half centuries and the Japanese occupation for approximately three years, the nation finally secured its independence at 10.00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 1945. We used to be Nederlands-Indië but now we bear our own name that we must be proud of, Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia.

It has been 65 years since the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence by Indonesian nationalists (also the first President-Vice Precident of Indonesia), Ir. Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta; yet most of the nation people are still living in poverty. So I wish for the best for my beloved country. This means no poverty, no more political corruption/collusion/nepotism, no more racial slurs (Bhinneka Tunggal Ika! Unity in Diversity!), more developments of the country, no more problems with neighboring countries, and a lot more.

While we have fun by celebrating it with games, contests, fireworks, and such; please do remember that the best way to celebrate it is by filling it with more useful things. Indonesians, do what you can do for the sake of making our country a better place. Do what you can do to make our heroes that had fought for the Independence proud. The chance to do it, of course, is not only on this day; but everyday!

DIRGAHAYU REPUBLIK INDONESIA! LONG LIVE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA! SANG MERAH PUTIH, MERDEKA! GLORIOUS RED AND WHITE, MERDEKA!

...I've just known what Dirgahayu means today btw. I fail as citizen ;; and this lacks red and white goodness oh god

spirittttttt!, ( occassion ) holiday, national pride!
