For
January Meta Meme,
selenak If it had been Sarah who died (by accident, since she had no reason to kill herself) on that subway station, and Beth who lived and had to live as Sarah for a while, what would have happened? Not just with Beth, but everyone?
This is an interesting question! I haven’t seen season 1 for a while now but I’ll do my best to answer!
We know almost nothing of Beth Childs what we do know of her we view from Sarah Manning’s POV. We know Beth was abusing her prescription medicine, that the pressure of knowing about being a clone and someone out to kill them got to her, that she’s trapped in a loveless relationship.
Maybe on the train platform Sarah stepped in and tried to stop Beth and ended up dying instead.
I think, initially, after the shock has worn off she goes into cop mode, she would try to do something but then she stops, evaluates and in a spit second decision we know all Clones are capable of: She starts thinking, what if she makes it look the woman who died was her, Beth Childs?
What if, Beth took over Sarah’s identity? Would it be so bad if she stopped being Beth? Being Beth Childs isn’t doing her any favors. What if she becomes someone else and disappears?
Initially Beth would feel free, after all no one knew about Sarah. She would think Sarah didn’t have anyone. Beth as Sarah can go anywhere and have no one. She can leave behind her job, her partner who keeps looking at her with disappointment in his eyes, a boyfriend who only pretended to love her. Her career that was tanking because she killed Maggie Chen.
She can leave the disaster that was her life.
Except Sarah Manning wasn’t a nobody and she did have people. People who were looking for her and just like how Sarah’s family brought her back, they would do the same for her.
Its not sunshine and roses. She realizes Sarah’s life is as messy as her own but its a different kind of mess. A kind of mess she’s not used to dealing with, a kind of life she’s never been on. But its also freeing for Beth.
Of course but Felix would find her and get her clean, and he would go: “WTF, Sarah? I thought you would never ever do drugs? What about Kira?”
And that’s when Beth would find out that Sarah Manning has/had a daughter. A biological daughter. It would knock her back a few steps and she meets Kira. Meeting Kira would hit Beth, Kira would know that Beth was not Sarah. But just having Kira throws Beth out of a loop, Mrs. S is harder on Beth / Sarah because how dare Sarah return into Kira’s life with drugs in her life.
Beth cleans up her act and tries to do her best by Sarah and Kira, and even her Clone sisters. Eventually she comes clean about who she is to Mrs. S.
Sarah’s family is devastated but eventually they open their arms to her, and really that? That knocks Beth even more for a loop and she begins to regain her sense of humor.
As she begins to understand more of Sarah, she also learns more of herself and to become herself.
How Beth will fare against or stop Helena from killing her or the others though, would be a mystery because we know its Helena’s connection to Sarah that made her question her orders. Maybe Kira would be instrumental in turning Helena too.
Beth isn’t the wild one, but after stepping in Sarah’s shoes she’s incorporated a bit of Sarah’s wildness. She gets comfortable being herself but actually likes herself better as Sarah.
