So dangerous....

*Siiiigh* the pictures I took turned out to be blurry thanks to my really crappy camera.

My friends and I vacationed in Coron, Palawan during the week before Lent. One of the things I like about my friends is that they have the same reaction I do about Boracay.
I used to like Boracay until it became the hottest place to visit of every partygoer in Manila. Meaning most of the people who go to Boracay are there to see and be seen and some people don't even go for a swim!

I hate how commercialized Boracay has become and how anyone with money will work the island to the bone. Boracay was/is known for its white sands and pristine waters but when I went there a few years back I was flabbergasted at what I saw... stalls were gathered so close together that you could only see a strip of white sand before it vanishes into the waters. It's also so very over crowded.

So these days my friends and I opt to go to vaction spots that's not as popular and populated as Boracay. Last year it was Bantayan island, this year... Coron, Palawan.

Much as we'd like to visit Puerto Princesa our budget cannot reach the insane amount of money required to venture there. Fortunately, Coron is as fantastic as the other Palawan island. It also boasts of white sand beaches (an hour's boat ride from the main island at the least) and some really, really fantastic corals.

It also has a two ship wrecks in shallow water you can view without aid of a Scuba gear. Although, got to say, seeing a ship wreck on TV is a LOT different from seeing one in real life. That part freaked me out a lot more than the tempestous boat ride back to the resort.

I'll try to post better pictures.

Dani Reese in Merit Badge. I think this was the first icon I snagged. I loved the black and white effect (Dani looks awesome in B&W). I loved it because it encapsulates who Dani Reese is. No nonsense, down to Earth and a cop through and through.

O-ren Ishii, Kill Bill. More than the Bride I plain adored O-ren. I love her Shakesperean in magnitude power play, I loved her anime-style (literally and figuratively) history. I loved that she cut off a guy's fucking head off because he bad mouthed her heritage and proceeded to pwn the other Yakuza bosses with a speech that was pure Crowning Moment of Awesome.

I also loved that O-ren respected the Bride its not blatant but before everything went down it was implied of all the assassins in DiVAS O-ren was the one the Bride was closest to. Plus, I always had the feeling because of O-ren's history she knew all about the Bride's need for vengeance.

Ned the Piemaker! I love him so for his gooey chewy center and his smile and all the quirky, delightful awesome that defines this show starts with Ned.

This might be my second favorite Charlie icon. I love the blue filter during this scene and its the type of icon I like pulling out on occasion. It reminds me that for all his sunny zen-ness he is still the guy with the Zendetta and anger and a man who lost everything once upon a time.

Ah, my Dani Reese/Gun OTP icon. It's my personal canon that Dani Reese likes guns very much. I very much think Dani'll understand Charlie's attachment to big guns. Actually, I kinda think she'll understand his attachment to fast cars too judging from her reaction to Charlie's really cool fast car.

This was my big 'awwwwwwww' moment of One True Partner-ness, I just loved Serious Control Issues from beginning to end but especially this moment where Dani illustrates how much she's come to trust Charlie.

Speaking off... is it weird that while I now acknowledge the awesome shippiness of Crews/Reese without guilt I kinda think/hope they'll NOT jump into a relationship off the bat? Because while I do like the prospect of Crews and Reese together romantically I don't think it'll be the right time for them and I kinda think that Crews and Reese would appreciate being together without the pressure of a romantic relationship bouncing on their doors.

I see Charlie and Dani preferring each other's company more and more, maybe picnics out and or just hanging outside their squad car and just bouncing Zen talks. Maybe Dani starts hanging out in Charlie's big assed mansion and Charlie will start cooking pancakes and Dani will protest the amount of blueberries he mixes in the batter. But they're not together together although if people will ask Crews and Reese won't exactly protest nor will they deny but maybe look at the person funny. Possibly say something Zen to confuse the person.

I think they'll be able to pull this off a lot more successfully than Booth and Brennan much as I like Booth and Brennan together the way they kept protesting they're not a couple and they're not shagging nor snogging is getting ridiculous even before season 2 started. I think because its the way they kept playing up the sexual tension card. Sometimes its done subtly, most of the time they hit you with the heaviest anvil they have and keep on hitting you with it.

Meanwhile, what I like about what happened to Crews and Reese is what I discovered I like about most of the pairings I ship:

The slow burn, the way they get hit by a two by four and realize they might actually feel for the other person more than they realize. They don't do the stolen glances, protest up the whazoo routine. I think form the start they're very aware that the other person is attractive but they've built a wall and Reese reinforces it by keeping things professional. And while the wall has come down I honestly don't think Crews or Reese would breach that final line.

It wasn't until I read akamarykate's post I realized why I thought that was: Crews/Reese is An Austen romance (or in akamarykate's words, an Persuasion as a cop show). Or at least, that's what its going to be for the longest time. It's not going to be about the physical for the partners. They've both had physical relationships, they've had that most of their lives now they're ready for something else. Or on the verge of something else.

They both know something's changed in their partnership and from the look they shared at the end I realize Crews and Reese acknowledged this change between them (I've mentioned in other journals, how much I love the moment of realization? It's not loud or messy or even cheesy. It's quiet and all done with a look and that's just brilliant on the writer's part because that is Crews and Reese. Understated and unspoken.) but they're not going to force the issue. I think for Dani the partnership has been the one thing in her life that isn't messed up or tainted so she's not gonna mess with that and Charlie's only too happy to let Dani take the lead. He isn't going to push.

.....ZOMG guys! Guys! It's an interview with Rand and DL but this in particular caught my eye:

How will this episode affect Reese and Crews’ odd couple relationship?

We find out what Crews has been searching for since he left prison. He thinks he’s searching for an answer to what put him away, but really, he’s searching to find himself. What he needs to understand is you find yourself by being with other people. He’s had these unsatisfying relationships with women and there’s been a person sitting in the car right next to him who has been there through everything with him. He needs to understand that perhaps the most important person in his life, though not necessarily on an ongoing romantic level, is Dani.

This parallel's Dani's state of mind nicely in season 1, don't believe me? Take a gander at Dani's bio from the official Life site!
But she has made up her mind not to trust anyone. She has put up a wall around herself in order to stay safe - it's just that the one person she might be able to trust is sitting in the car right next to her.

Gaaaaah! I ♥ this a lot! They do make each other better and they trust each other implicitly despite building walls higher than any other person could scale and it's just... I don't know why but I feel like it kinda puts fuel to my Crews/Reese Austen romance theory.

They'll not be pining glances but there will be looks of understanding and meaning and whole conversation done with just a look (which is not far off from what they're doing now, actually).

So... d'ya think I'm off my rocker? Or maybe there's some merit to this?

serrico's post-One ficlets:

Post-One coda
They ride back into the city together, sitting silently while Bodner drives. The last Charlie sees of Reese is when Tidwell all but pulls her out of the car

untitled Life/TSCC crossover.
The duo of Charlie Crews and Dani Reese is a long-established fixture in the resistance. He's on friendly, chatty terms with all the other tunnel rats; she's the quiet shadow that never leaves his side. Together, they've taken out more metal than pairs half their age.

I adore the crossover, it's the Life/TSCC crossover I've been wanting! And serrico have Crews and Reese down pat also, as expected, Crews and Reese kick metal ass.

One plus One by oh-mcgee
It was all leading up to this, for both of you. Everything, everything is connected. For her to be, so did you. For you to be happy, so did she. It was always going to be, you just had to wait for the right moment.

I open my eyes and I exist by dreamingwriter
Sometime's it's like he's right there, like he's chattering about fruit color and purpose and cases in her ear, asking her if she can see how it's all connected.

A story written before Initiative 38 and One but still so fabulous.
