Folding Down

I promise to stop spamming but I was updating Zennish when I came across an interview with Angela Bromstad. Ms. Bromstad is NBC Universal's new president for primetime entertainment. One of the things discussed during her interview was the fate of the bubble shows in NBC.

And what she has to say about Life made my heart sink:

THR: And "Life"?

Bromstad: "Life" is a show I developed when I was here before I left. Damian (Lewis) is a great star. We wish the ratings were better. That's really all we can say.

I looked up Ms. Bromstad and she seemed to be responsible in developing: Ed, Profiler, Boomtown, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Crossing Jordan, Las Vegas, Will & Grace and Coupling. And added to that list via the interview, she seemed to have been involved in the initial development of Life.

She does sound sympathetic with the plight of Life and I have a feeling if she'd been in NBC last year she could have done something about the lack of publicity and marketing. I hope she does see that going up against three ratings juggernaut didn't help Life in the ratings column but before it had to go up against Lost Life pulled in 5 to 6 million viewers and during the Christmas season last year it managed to pull in 8 million viewers.

But I was also heartened to see that she seemed open to making deals with NBC's cable networks to help keep a show alive. If that's the case I hope USA Network would step in.

*sigh* It's a pipe dream I know but one can dream.

I have similar thoughts about this interview in Zennish here.
