Every October I watch 100 horror movies that month. It messes with my brain. Nightmares bleed into my reality. So, I'm a little more ‘off' mid-October through about Thanksgiving than I usually am. But honestly, I kinda like twisting my own reality so...

I've been thinking that I need another movie marathon in another part of the year. I was thinking about some Dystopian movies. Not 100 in a month; I don't think I could handle all the negativity. But we'll see. Any suggestions? See any glaring omissions on my list?

A dystopia is, in literature, an often futuristic society that has degraded into a repressive and controlled state, often under the guise of being utopian. Dystopian literature has underlying cautionary tones, warning society that if we continue to live how we do, this will be the consequence. A dystopia, thus, is regarded as a sort of negative utopia and is often characterized by an authoritarian or totalitarian form of government. Dystopias usually feature different kinds of repressive social control systems, a lack or total absence of individual freedoms and expressions and constant states of warfare or violence. Dystopias often explore the concept of humans abusing technology and how humans individually and collectively cope with technology that has evolved too quickly. A dystopian society is also often characterized by mass poverty and brutal political controls such as a large military-like police.

Some movies I'm putting on the possibilities list are:

Equilibrium
Death Race
Logan's Run
Soylent Green
They Live
Dark City
Brazil
1984
Fahrenheit 451
Total Recall
Demolition Man
Gattaca
Serenity
Battle Royale
The Trial
Minority Report
Blade Runner
The Matrix
A Clockwork Orange
Repo! The Genetic Opera
Babylon A.D.
Class of 1999
The Handmaid's Tale
Escape from New York (or LA; they both work)
District 9
Doomsday
The Island
Judge Dredd
Metropolis
Nineteen Eighty-Four
The Omega Man
The Running Man
A Scanner Darkly
Screamers
Southland Tales
Soylent Green
Strange Days
THX 1138
The Trial
Ultraviolet
V for Vendetta
Prayer of the Rollerboys

Of course I could also just do a marathon of post-apocalyptic movies. Like I need anymore paranoid fantasies about that.
