Its been too long since I’ve really updated.
So, let me try and sum it up.
The day of the boy’s 10th birthday, it snowed. Snow... in late March is just wrong people. We stayed home and I baked one of those prepackaged confetti cakes. Then I made some vanilla frosting, added some green food coloring and a package of unsweetened watermelon-kiwi koolaid and whipped it all together to ice the cake. HOLY CRAP. It was like crack, it was so yum.
*ahem* Anyway, the next day, I overslept like whoa! and texted
wickedoll to let her know that I suck that I didn’t forget and we’d be on our way shortly. I threw myself together and me and the boys went and picked her up for lunch (at 2 pm). After sushi (yay) we went to the asian market (Nam Hai), we browsed and picked up a few things. Then to the mall where I bought some lip gloss from Sephora. I came to the conclusion that phobias are genetic when my son freaked the hell out every time anyone touched him while we were on the second floor. Build-A-Bear was fun but I left my newly bought lip gloss on the counter when I paid. :(
I had to drop her off at home so that I could get home before dark and bring in the dogs. It’s a healthy drive (1.5-ish) hours.
We get home, the boys go in and I haul in my goodies from the market. Then I go to bring in the dogs. I clip the leash onto Odie’s harness and pick up Buster. When I open the gate, Odie takes off running. Apparently, the leash wasn’t actually clipped because he kept running. I took Buster in and put him in his kennel then went outside to chase Odie. He was following the scent of something and ignoring me. About the time he headed under the barb wire fence where the cows are, I thought ‘fuck it, he’ll come back or he won’t’. Of course, that didn’t stop me from sitting outside the whole time he was missing or calling for him every ten or fifteen minutes.
After about two hours, he came running back and we went back in the house. He was favoring one of his front paws and was extremely happy to see me. I checked out his foot but I couldn’t see what was wrong.
I don’t actually think that he left the property even though he was gone for quite a while.
I was off on Monday and Tuesday, so I stayed at home, played video games, did laundry, napped a bit. I took the boys to Walmart to redeem the gift cards that
wickedoll, who is awesome, gave them for their birthday.
The last two weeks in a nutshell:
I finished reading Watchmen and then I had to locate a theater in my area that was still showing it. I wound up having to drive all the way to Bricktown to see it. The local places were no longer showing it after three weeks but still were showing Paul Blart: Mall Cop after 10 weeks. I’m appalled.
The movie was worth the drive (about an hour) but, honestly if I never had to drive to Bricktown again, it would be so much for the better. The exit off the freeway is like a deathtrap. *shudder*
Newest development: Mom mentioned to me that she would like to have some laying hens. I’m all for it. I was thinking 3 or 4, she’s thinking at least a dozen. I looked around to buy a chicken coop and discovered that they are ridiculously expensive.
Dad is the carpenter (and electrician) of the family but he’s not on the bandwagon at all. We knew he wouldn’t be so I’ve been looking on the internet for interesting and fairly simple plans for building a chicken coop. I found some really cool designs and basic instructions for building it out of wooden pallets. I drew up some plans and decided that we (I say “we” but honestly, I’ll be doing this mostly on my own) needed 38 for the basic skeleton of the building. If I decide to do the roof framing with them then I will need 12 more than that.
I found a place just about two miles from my office that has a couple hundred of these wooden pallets, so tomorrow, we’re going to come out here and load up the back of Dad’s truck with as many as it will hold. If we have to make two or three trips, then I’ll get as many as I can. I’d rather have too many than not enough. Plus, I’ve got plans to make a compost box so, I’ll need about 6 for that. The perk of this plan is it will be fairly inexpensive to build. Sure, I’ll have to buy some additional wood, a door, hardware, and stuff like that. I even know an electrician in case my Dad is still being difficult when I need to get the electric run out there.
I plan on taking pictures of the project as it goes. Here’s hoping that I don’t change my mind in the middle of building it. I am fickle and easily distracted. *shrugs*
Oh, and a little yellow cat came up to the porch last night. He was a little skittish at first but, after I offered him some food he came over to say hi. He’s a loveable little thing and he’d be an outside cat. I’m hoping that he will take care of some our gopher population.
Ok loves, I think we’re all caught up with the stuff I should have posted in the last few weeks.
