Everything coming together...

Today was supposed to begin the week of packing and preparation for deployment…instead I sat around the house puttering and recouping from a very exhaustive 4 days.

Thursday I traveled to LA for dinner with Gian and Nomi. We ate at a Mongolian BBQ and hung out at the Lair. We stayed up late chatting about this and that and I eventually decided that it was best that I crash up in LA instead of driving home and trying to drive back up again the following afternoon. I learned a lot about medieval knights from Gian that evening and crashed in the library. The following morning I hung out and finally had a chance to chat with Nomi one-on-one and catch up with what’s been going on with her life. I hope that everything works out for you sweetie.

Friday…well, it was the most interesting…a lot of emotional highs and lows for me. The lows came when I finally broke it to the majority of my family that I’m deploying to Iraq. The news didn’t go over too well. After the initial breakdown and crying from my grandmother and aunts, they began the lecturing process. They criticized my choice for volunteering to go. I told them it was my decision, its better that I go instead of those Marines with families and such. I’ll stay as long as I can in Iraq, on their behalf, so they won’t have to go. Then they started up on the fact that I have yet had the opportunity to even start a family and my mother was counting on me to continue the bloodline. Through all the crying and tears I had to leave, it was too much for me to deal with. If they only knew the truth of the matter and who I was…they would realize why I do what I do.

The highlight of Friday was hanging out with Jenna. We hung about her house a while chatting and trying to work up an idea (and the energy) to do something before our planned outing that night. We decided to hang out at The Block in Orange and stroll around a bit till we could figure what we wanted to eat. We went to La Creperie on 2nd Street in Long Beach. I hadn’t had crepes in a while…the food was good…the dessert even better. After dinner, we made our way to downtown LA. Das Bunker was an interesting club. I don’t know how many people realize this, but I love music…and one of my dreams is to own a club. Whenever I go to a club I go for the learning experience as well as entertainment. This one had a lot of potential and the music was good. We thought we arrived early, because the club was pretty much empty, but after a while the scene greatly improved. I really enjoyed the evening and look forward to doing something similar again.

I arrived home at around 4am on Saturday and immediately went to sleep…only to be roused at 9am by my weekend guest, Ramsay. He drove from Visalia at 4am to get here. We lounged around the house catching up on old times and watching The Sword and the Sorcerer (one of my b-rate fantasy flicks). Eventually we both decided that a nap was a good option, because we were planning on going to a pub that night. Instead we hung out with Irwin (before his vacation in Oklahoma) and watched Firefly (Ramsay brought with him the DVD series). Another late night and we headed to sleep around 3am.

Sunday started at 9am with Ton and Mike calling for directions to my apartment. Everyone actually made it on time for the AD&D game (yes, I’m a geek…and I love it). A lot was accomplished in the storyline…finally. It was a great session and we gamed till 2am. I can’t wait till I can do it again.

Unfortunately all this minimal sleep caused my Monday to be really unproductive.

Right now…I’m just planning out the week, relaxing, and reminiscing…
