They have a wonderful evening. Nick comes home early for once - no doubt Juliette has Hank to thank for that - and brings her red roses. He laughs and kisses her when he sees she bought him his favorite chocolates. They go out to dinner to their favorite restaurant. They hold hands and smile at each other like they share the most beautiful secret.
They share everything and that certainty is what makes the difference for her.
Juliette waits until they’re back at home, until after they’ve made love and they’re just holding each other. It’s not about Valentine’s day. It’s about them. She has no doubts any more.
“Nick?” she says as she caresses his cheek. He has his eyes closed but she knows he’s not sleeping, just holding her contentedly in this moment of peace.
When he looks at her she asks in a murmur, “Will you marry me?”
The smile that blossoms on his face is blinding, “Yes. Of course I’ll marry you,” he says in a rushed whisper, voice slightly choked as if she has just given him the most precious of gifts.
Her own smile mirrors his.
