Good evening, my dear companions in the land of freedom from academia. Despite our lack of structured study, I have a question for anyone familiar with the fascinating world of Muggle computing and what is apparently known colloquially as the "world wide web ( Read more... )

being a pureblood is hard?, possible extra academia, summer fun, [rp] sortinghat, the internets, *ic, compooters, skyping with friends

Windows are better for games, Macs are better for showing off.

I do so like showing off. What kind of games would one play?

It's pointless. People think they look cooler with a Mac. They don't.

Video games.

Why not? As my dear friend Dave would point out, coolness points are not in my agenda. However, I'm curious about this branding and the odd cultural connotations it appears to possess.

I have never played video games before. Are they enjoyable? Just what is their appeal?

It's just the way they market it.

Yes, they are. Have you really never tried?

Ah, bad marketing. I won't discount it just yet, but it's compelling indeed.

Oh, well. No, I haven't tried. Embarrassingly, I'm a born and raised pureblood, so these things are all rather shiny and new to me. Apart from occasional glimpses and recent prodding at consoles in muggle shops out of curiosity, I've not actually experienced any sort of gameplay.

No, it's great marketing, you have to have a Mac to be cool, or something.

You should give it a shot. Don't they ever talk about it in Muggle Studies?

Ah, so it's the exploitation of human gullibility. Beautifully done, I almost want to subscribe to it out of irony. That in itself wouldn't be particularly cool, though.

I suppose they have mentioned it incidentally within the topic of recent developments in Muggle entertainment, but as anything viewed through a lens, the whole experience is loathe to become somewhat distorted. I may attempt to purchase one of those interesting little hand-held devices at some point, provided my mother doesn't find all the muggle paraphernalia I appear to be collecting.

Don't bother.

Well, the hand-helds are easier to hide, obviously, so it's a good bet. Get the DS.

I'm almost disappointed by that little piece of advice, but I suppose that's fair enough.

The DS? The little ones that come in different colours and have a tiny little pen attached? They are awfully cute, aren't they? Have you recommendations for certain games to get attached to?

I guess I would start girls off with Pokemon.

Pokemon?

A lot of girls like it because there's cute animals in it.

Ah, cute animals, you say?
Are there some that might be considered zoologically dubious?

Have these creatures any ulterior motives? Do they spend their nights in restless slumber with their tendrils furled - waiting for their predestined time to break the surface of the water and have the others tremble in their grasp?
