Anyone who writes, be it fanfiction or original fic, should read this post by Jim C. Hines (one of my favorite authors) about using rape in fiction writing. This is a topic I feel strongly about, and as a reader of gay fantasy and paranormal romances, I see it overused and so very badly written, not to mention a cheap way to add drama to a story, and I've gotten tot he point where I can't even finish reading a book where rape is used (I'm not talking about in depth stories where it's an issue taken seriously and the author actually did their research, but those are pretty darn hard to find, and still not quite my kind of reading.)

Please read, because it's a topic far too many authors take and use far too lightly, whether the one assaulted is male or female.
