Character's name: Sirius Black
Character's canon: Harry Potter (the books)
Brief (around 300 words) [So much for brief] personality outline of your character:
At his heart, Sirius is brave, arrogant, and brilliant. The Sorting Hat made the right choice when it put him in Gryffindor. Sirius’s bravery is matched only by his recklessness. He loves both getting into and making trouble. At Hogwarts he most likely broke virtually every rule, exploring forbidden places with his friends and creating a map of the school. As he’s matured he’s channeled this into fighting Death Eaters as opposed to hexing people who insult him (though he’ll still do that too if they really piss him off). He was a member of the Order of the Phoenix, lead by Dumbledore against Voldemort and remained a member even while the Death Eaters were “picking them off one by one.”
Sirius is incredibly gifted. He and his best friend James were one of, if not the, top students in their year. He excelled at his subjects without even trying. He waved his friend Remus off when he asked Sirius to help him study for their Transfiguration O.W.L. by declaring it was rubbish and that he didn’t need to worry about it. This was true, given that he’d broken the law and had illegally become an Animagus (a wizard who can turn into an animal, in this case a large dog) so he could accompany his friend Remus while he was transformed into a werewolf. All Animagi are supposed to register and take tests before becoming one but Sirius, James, and Peter (who they taught to become one) never bothered with that rule (interestingly enough, if they’d been caught they would have spent time at Azkaban for it).
In part because of this, and also how he was raised, Sirius is rather arrogant. He thinks he can do just about anything and get away with it-and he usually does. However, Sirius is recovering from a major trauma as he just lost two of his best friends (or three, if you count Peter) due to an idea he thought was clever at the time. When it was clear Voldemort was after James, Lily, and Harry, they had planned to go into hiding and have Sirius as their Secret Keeper (the only one who could reveal their whereabouts). Sirius, however, thought they should do a fake out. Suspecting Remus of being a traitor, he convinced James to change Secret Keepers to Peter. Unfortunately, Peter was the spy and he sold them out to Voldemort. Sirius blames himself for the deaths of his friends just as surely as if he’d been there and killed them himself. Their deaths are something he’ll never forgive himself for.
Sirius can also be cruel and vindictive. When he was 16 he told Snape, who he hated, how to go inside the Shrieking Shack to follow Remus, knowing that Remus would transform into a werewolf. It doesn’t seem like he thought it through to its logical ending, with Snape being gored to death, and simply thought it was a funny way to show him up for being a nosy bastard. He wasn’t, however, terribly guilty about it. Though he is significantly less cruel than he was at Hogwarts, he still takes pleasure in pranking (without lethal results) and insulting someone he doesn’t like. He can just barely put a grudge aside long enough to associate with someone he loathes. He also has a fierce temper when provoked though he is good at letting the issue past if you’re his friend. If you’re not his friend, you better get out fast or pull out your wand.
He’s also very rebellious. Unless he likes and respects you, he’s not going to do what you say (in fact, he may not even do what you say then). But if he does like you, and if you’re his friend, he will stick with you to the end- except if you betray his friends to their death. He was willing to die for James and his family and he would have without a second thought. I think Sirius expected that the Death Eaters would find him even though he went into hiding and he asked Peter to be Secret Keeper not because he was afraid of telling but because he wanted someone else to be there for his friends when he no longer was (that and it was the perfect move because no one would suspect Peter). He was also friends with Remus Lupin, and instead of rejecting him when they found out he was a werewolf, he stayed his friend and found a way to be with him during his painful transformations.
I’m also playing him as gay but seriously (no pun intended) in the closet. He passes for straight. There are no real indications in the canon that he’s not gay. The only thing we have is that he put pictures of muggle biker girls up on the walls of his room by the time he was 16 but at 16 a lot of people are still sorting out their sexuality and putting the posters up was more of a way to piss off his mother than anything else. If you have any issues with this I'm more than willing to talk about it and see if we can come up with something that makes everyone happy.
Brief (around 500 words) history and background of your character OR link to a really good wiki page with their history. In either case, explain where they cut off from the timeline:

If the character has magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities, please explain what they are and outline EXACTLY how they function, as their powers may not work due to the nature of the ship or may need to be limited somehow:
