I met Iona on a mailing list about these people:
where she posted challenges every week. It was my second real fandom, and the first one in which I wrote with anything approaching real regularity. (Some of them are truly terrible.)
We have shared some other fandoms over the years.
One we started a community for other people like us. There turned out to be rather a lot, and
new_who is still going strong.
Sometimes we disagree. For example, I am fond of Snape.
I would have put a picture of Sirius and/or Remus here, but I don't have any.
(See also icon. And while we're in SG-1 fandom, one of my most treasured memories of a phone conversation is of the day I rang Iona up and asked her why Daniel was addicted to dying. I received a small but perfectly formed lecture about how it was not dying which was addictive but sarcophogi.)
My love for Iona is strong. Once or twice I have even been to Milton Keynes to see her. (The first time we met in real life, it was in a bookstore in Oxford. I was so wrapped up in all the things we talked about that I left my folder of papers behind and had to dash back for it later.)
While there, we did the Dance of Backstory, which looks like this.
And found a TARDIS.
In conclusion: Iona, my dear, have a wonderful birthday.
I don't know where this picture came from, but I am fond of it.
