You don't have to be a marine to be someone with a sense of honor. To be someone who fights only when it's needed, to be courageous and strong and to hone your mind and body together. Some Marines can do this. But in my experience, not many really stand up to that idealized version of themselves that they like to put on television commercials. Which is fine really, because reality shouldn't be like it is on TV, and honestly having a lot of real, true paladins walking around would get rather annoying. Especially heavily armed ones

you know, i'm going to give you some advice that i need to follow myself. i even heard it a few days ago from one of mom's teacher friends.
"follow your bliss"
if your bliss is honor in warfare, then find a place where there is honor in fighting. the marines aren't it. but martial arts might be.
if your bliss is wading through soviet-era documents, then pick a path that gets you there.
if your bliss is a group of friends that suits who you are now, then find that group.
angst and insecurity neve go away, and if they do, then that means that you have become a person who no longer cares about their behavior (and that is bad).
but seriously, and i need to follow this because it brought me great success last year, listen to joseph campbell follow your bliss
just make sure that you think about it and figure out what is truly bliss and what is just masquerading as bliss. you'll know.
and feel free to talk to me. just because i have my own problems, doesn't mean that i can't help you with yours.
