I was on top of the world yesterday, and not feel like im down in the muck.
Two days ago, my friend, Michael Henson, tried to install some new software, Roxio Easy Media Creator 7. But something went wrong, and the latest auto update from Microsoft that he just dl'ed earlier that day was doing something with the Kernal. He couldnt access the internet or any file folders on his computer, getting an error message about a sertain memory call function was trying to call 0X00000000. Im not sure exactly what that means, but i know enough code to know that Microsoft had Fucked him in the ass, and hard.
There was nothing anybody could do to save his information, because that error popped up on everything he did: when he tried to open a folder, an accessory, any program stored on his C: drive. So he calls Dell support, and they tell him they have been getting an unusual amount of these complaints, and they walk him through the steps of reformating. I felt bad cuz i couldnt save it for him, but i tried.
Then last night, im over there assisting him with the reconstruction of his computer, putting back the drivers for the printer, the wireless mouse and keyboard, and even the Roxio 7. Everything worked fine. At 10, i decided to call it a night, and thanked Mike for giving me his old keyboard and optical mouse, and for letting me borrow the Roxio.
Now, i am almost religious about ignoring the windows automatic update icon in my tray, so im pretty sure that i didnt have the same update as Mike. I decided that i was going to connect the mouse first, then maybe play a little counter strike to see what it was like, then install the roxio and maybe rip a DVD. but i decided to skip the CS because i was tired, so i put the roxio straight on after the mouse. and when i rebooted my computer, everything went to hell.
when i restarted my computer and tried to log into windows i was logged out immediately. absolutely nothing i did would fix the problem, no boot parameters, no nothing. so i was faced with the horrible reality of having to reformat my main disk drive. it was hard enough just making myself do it, but then i couldnt get the fucking Hewlett-Fucking-Packard Safe Recovery system to work properly. waited while it tried to dial the fucking internet for an hour, no realizing it, because i have a DSL satelite modual, not a modem, because my network is set up on a gateway portal, very interesting, i assure you. i finally got fed up, went through the System Recovery again, and found out that i had instructed it to dial to FUCKING REGISTER MY FUCKING COMPUTER WITH FUCKING HEWLETT-FUCKING-PACKARD AND MICRoFUCKINGsOFT.
Long story short, i got it back up and running, got aim back on here, got online and went to bed....at 5 in the morning.
so how was your day?
