Institutional stupidity
We just found out today that our entire section is being eliminated. All of the positions are being merged into the new CNIC project (centralized data center in Salem) as new, open positions. We all get to apply to get our own fscking jobs.
I'd bet my last paycheck that they'll be officially located in Salem. With my luck, they'll take away time of service seniority and drop the salary steps back down to the bottom ... along with re-classifying the job down a class or two.
So, I spend the last ten years busting my ass working far beyond my official classification for sub-standard wages and a recently-eviscerated retirement plan for an organization that treats its peons (yes, we have been referred to as "peons" by a member of the management team) like shit only to be rewarded with a blanket proclamation "your job has been summarily eliminated, if you would like to salvage your career please apply for the same thankless job in Salem and if we think you'll be a good little drone we might actually hire you back." Hmm ... let me think about this ... trade a 3 mile commute for a 60 mile commute for no more pay (possibly less) and I'm not even guaranteed to keep my own damn job?
