Been a long time again. Saturday before last I went to see The Boss with L at Hyde Park.
The constant rain we had had led to a billion tons of forest bark being laid down which whilst making it marginally less muddy also made it stink.
Bruce always puts his heart and soul into a show and we weren't disappointed. However, for some reason, some people seem happy to pay £60 for a ticket then talk and laugh loudly with their backs to the stage whilst looking at texts. Also a constant stream of people back and forth carrying wobbly trays of drinks really did tend to spoil the mood. I must be getting (!) old but won't go to another standing festival-type gig again.
Last Wednesday I returned to London for my first trip to the
Globe theatre on the South Bank to see Mark Rylance in Richard III. I wasn't going to stand in the open for three hours so had booked a seat in the middle tier right opposite the stage and had an excellent view (and also stayed dry when it began to rain). Took a bit of settling into such a different surrounding but I love the place and the play. My previous view of Richard III was the Spacey version last year, much more modern that this trad doublet and hose one. Costumes were beautiful and the all-male cast made excellent women as well. Rylance's Richard was more subdued and amusing than I had expected but when he did let rip it was all the more shocking. Roger Lloyd-Pack's Buckingham was great too and I (almost) managed to dismiss Trigger from my mind.
On the film front at work I enjoyed Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, a silly story well played by an excellent cast. (The sheik was a bit of alright;)). Johnny Depp's Dark Shadows was better than anticipated. Sure there have been more but can't remember at the moment.
My last post told news of our new adopted black cats George and Lenny. Very sadly George disappeared the Friday before last and whilst we were posting flyers about him on the Sunday we found his little body by the roadside. Lenny has been lost without him but is gradually coming around with a lot of fuss and attention. George was buried in the garden with full feline honours and copious tears.
