Interesting Developments
New things in my life. On my birthday (my 30th... shudder) I was having dinner with my family when my father invited me into the "family business". Yes, finally I would be gunning down squealers for the family... no, wait, wrong family.
Anyway, he invited me to join the antique business full time working with my parents. I thought this was a great idea. He even offered me a small portion of a booth to sale some of my gaming books. I began to talk. A stream of words tumbled from my mouth in rapid succession. After I was finished speaking I stopped and looked at everyone and asked, "Did I just make a business proposal?" They all nodded agreement.
And so, DYS games was born. I have my business license and now I am working on two different distributors (one in Alaska, oddly enough) to supply me. I am going to get those silly collectable card games (Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, etc) and sell them to all the kids that are dragged into the antique mall against their wishes. I am also going to stock some more serious game books, DnD and stuff like that. And I have found a warehouse where this guy sells weapons, the kinds of weapons that gamers often want to put on their walls. They are dirt cheap and I think I could easily turn a profit on them. All of these things I am going to offer at a discount, say 10%-20% to help generate business... I mean, I am not really paying overhead for my space, like a gameing store would have to, so I have the leeway to get away with that.
So, I am going into business for myself. The best thing about it is that I am still working for my folks and drawing a regular paycheck (not anything huge, but more than sufficient for me) so its not like I am dependent on this for income. I can easily afford to play with this and not worry about it as a source of livelihood.
Now I am 30, and finally I have something to do with myself.
Oh, and all of you out there, that are gamers or know gamers, have them talk to me... I can hook you up with good stuff if you tell me ahead of time what you want. :)
