I can see you burning with desire for a kissa_perfect_endJanuary 12 2011, 03:12:09 UTC
He blinked. It was--bracing, reassuring invigorating, to see that she'd relax far enough in his company to make that gesture, and he smirked at that, rather than answer. It was answer enough.
Bartending routines bustled to complete her order, and he tracked them without really seeing them or taking notice--trace programming, consequence of being a monitor.
The smooth, gleaming grace with which Gem arranged herself on the couch forcibly redirected his attention--drew it over her whole form, everything she was, up to that slightest tilt of her lips, the hint of amusement ghosting across her face.
Even in the corner lighting, her eyes were incredibly blue.
Gem crooked her finger.
Clu sat.
"Reconnaissance," he said. It was true. "Mostly. Everything in its place, after all." He didn't relax so much as simply spread out--take the space he was accustomed to. He'd been invited. It was his, for now.
"You surprised me," he hummed, drawing the words out, one arm stretching lazily on the back of the couch. Not touching, but they could be, if she moved with him. "That makes twice, now."
[Sorry if it's godmod about her gesture; it was way too good to pass up. ♥]

"Not everything has a place, Clu. But I suppose we can not completely change our programming." Gem said this softly--it was an admonishment; not necessarily for the Isos (Gem had a strange relationship in the first place), but in general. She herself...had not fit into her pre-determined programming. She had sought out something better for herself.
It had been fulfilling until she had met the bad end. But no matter. Things had changed. Restarted.
Refraining from rolling her eyes yet again at how he spread out on the couch as if he owned the place (again, perhaps it was coded within him to act like this. She had seen Flynn occasionally make the same gestures), she looked over at him, raising a slender eyebrow.
"And how have I surprised you? Both instances, if you please." She shifted her body to face him more, waiting for his explanation.

Clu considered, tilted his head and listened. Everything changed, she was saying: everything evolved. Not everything has a place. Gem had grown beyond the limits of her instruction set and carved out a new existence for herself, a life that was more than her original programming.
Something he was still struggling to do. For so many cycles, he'd put so much energy, such focus, into that single goal--perfection--and it was still beyond him.
But this was a new beginning. Changed circumstances. And Gem had rearranged her priority stacks--that meant it was possible. New directives.
New alliances, perhaps. He sat forward slightly, yielded space and gave ground as she moved. End of Line was hers, now, after all.
He smiled as she turned to him, an expression that almost reached his eyes. She was in a fascinating frame of mind tonight.
"Before, when you were with Zuse." He looked up, focused on her. "Siren protocol can be very--restrictive, but you moved past it. And him. And now you're running things."
There was a hint of pleased laughter in it. "Though I suppose that follows, logically, from such determination. You're unique."
And what surprised him most about saying it was that he meant it.

Gem noticed when he conceded the ground on the couch to her. It was...something different for him--something she had not seen him do before. Perhaps little Clu could learn, after all? Gem knew not to underestimate him, regardless how he acted now.
When he mentioned Zues, she put up a finger, stopping him. "Zues controlled me as much as he could, as well. He was the one that allowed me to be... re-purposed." She would be honest; deception was easy for her, but Gem did not see the need to be so at the moment. "But yes, I chose a different angle."
Raising an eyebrow slightly at his amused state, Gem shifted forward, pressing into his personal space. "Unique? But I thought you detested that."
