Who: Rinzy and company. Where: central Tron City What: kittens and rain are not friends :/ think the intro scene in "Oliver and Co" Warnings: one soggy kitten?
Ram held both arms over his head as he dashed through the puddles, looking for a doorway to shelter in. It had been countless cycles since the skies had opened up like this -- Portal turbulence, or something going wrong with the weather algorithms? -- and he had to bite back several choice comments about how either his old helmet or the solid, useful discs from the Encom system would have helped keep the torrent out of his hair. As it was, by the time he'd gotten under the jutting second floor of one of the towers, he looked as though someone had inverted a wet mop over his head.
Not that he would have recognized the analogy if it had been presented to him.
With the pounding rain roaring in his ears, it took a few moments for the sad, miserable mews to reach him. Forgetting his own discomfort immediately -- he knew that sound, unless the unknown process that little Rinzler had gone through had begun to affect other programs as well -- he poked his head out from under the ledge, attempting to triangulate.
There.
With a quick glance upwards at the sky, which didn't seem likely to relent any time soon, he hurried back out into the rain, crouching next to the lightcycle and the tiny chilled program shivering underneath.
awww you i love you its okayrinz_kittyMay 30 2011, 22:28:53 UTC
The sound of boots splashing through puddles made him pay attention to his surroundings and he peered out from beneath the 'cycle. Oh, thank the User, Ram.
Soggy little frame trembling violently, he mewled miserably once more. A tiny kitty sneeze shook him and he pawed at his nose in immense discomfort. He hesitantly shuffled closer to the edge of the bike, trying to keep himself in a tight ball to stay semi-warm.
"Hey there, Rinzler," said Ram softly, grinning even as he rubbed his face to wipe the rain out of his eyes. He reached out a careful hand to smooth the wet fur. "You must've been out here for a long time, huh? C'mere and I'll take you somewhere to warm up."
Rinz watched Ram quietly for a few moments, tiny frame trembling even as the actuary pet him lightly. He's not a particularly verbal program to begin with, and he's really not entirely sure he can speak without shaking too badly at the moment, so he settled for a quiet purr.
He sprang out from beneath his shelter and into Ram's arms, hissing at the rain.
Tucking Rinzler close to his chest to shelter him as much as he could, Ram bit his lip. How was he going to rezz his lightcycle like this? It was an art, and a badly rezzed lightcycle could... really hurt.
It was just as well, though. The new lightcycles had no enclosure, and he'd have to drive slowly anyway to avoid getting thrown off the paths. There might be an inside route to the first safe location he'd thought of -- the hideout where the other Rinzler had guarded him after that night at the Arena. That Rinzler had told him, after all, that he could find shelter there any time.
He hadn't been idle as he thought it all through -- by the time he'd decided what to do, they were already under the ledge where he'd taken refuge before.
"I think I know where to go," he told the kitty, heading into a covered alleyway -- the floor running with rain, but the towers above closing off the top -- and gently combing through Rinzler's soft fur to get some of the water out. "Hang on a little longer, okay?"
The kitten let out another soft mewl, curled close against Ram's chest. It was an unspeakable relief to be out of the rain and the actuary's touch was soothing. He sneezed again, the force of it making his whole body shudder.
He hardly cared where they were going so long as they went somewhere he could get warm and stay out of this horrendous rain.
Whoa! What was that? Had the little program gotten some water in his system? Ram shifted his hold to keep as much of the wet fur out of the open air as possible, and set a smart pace for the hideout.
He turned all the fans on high once they arrived, and raised the heat too -- programs normally didn't need a lot of heat, but with the way the kitty was shivering, all bets were off. Rinzler -- the other one -- wasn't really one for creature comforts, but there were towels in the toolchest, and they wicked up the dampness very satisfactorily when Ram scrubbed the kitten with it, fluffing the fur back up.
