October baseball is just especially great. What a wild-card tie-breaker game between San Diego and Colorado tonight! Thirteen innings, come-back win in the bottom of the 13th for the homestanding Rockies on an extremely close play at the plate...and though it is possible the runner should have been called out and they could still be playing--it's also possible there should have been no extra innings after a ball that apparently went over the wall earlier in the game for a Colorado home run was ruled a double instead. I didn't really care that much who won, but it was a great, great game to watch.
Also, my apologies to those with faint hearts or burning ears after my exploration of all the uses of the word "fuck" the other night. I promise no Floridians were harmed in the making of that journal entry. And the sportsman in me (now a little more sober and with time to reflect) gives a tip of the cap to a hell of a performance by South Florida, and also to Colorado, Auburn, Maryland and Kansas State who pulled off even more impressive upsets on Saturday. The football gods must have ordained a crazy weekend ahead of time.
So why does school have to start pretty much in October on the quarter system again? With playoff baseball, college and pro football, and not to mention the start of hockey and basketball seasons...well when am I supposed to find time to make a section syllabus?
