The Pirates have opened the baseball season 2-0! Now, if they can just play .500 baseball the rest of the way, they will have their first winning season since 1992. That's a long time to go without a winning season. However, they did finish in 2nd place and only four games out of first in the Central in 1997 with a losing record. The Central wasn't very impressive that year.
The Penguins have locked up a playoff birth for the first time since the 2000-2001 season. They will probably play Ottawa in the first round, but a lot could change. Let's Go Pens!
The following, from Mark Noll's "America's God," is the best description of a book I have ever read: [It was] "an orgy of his own erudition." I am now making it my life's goal to leave behind something that someone will one day describe as "an orgy of his own erudition." Perhaps this blog would be a good candidate.
After leading the Mountaineers to an NIT Championship, Coach Belien is making a b-line for the University of Michigan. My two favorite teams are now West Virginia and whoever plays Michigan. No, no! Don't you good capitalist materialists out there start spouting nonsense about how it's all a business and people have to follow the better money wherever it leads! Loyalty comes first, so long as you are being treated well. It's not as if he was making minimum wage at WVU, or that it is some third-rate basketball school. An Elite 8, a Sweet 16 and an NIT title in three years is about as good as you would get anywhere. Morgantown is a wonderful place to live. And you would leave that for more money? That's what's wrong with the entire world. Split everyone up and isolate them in a lonely life in order to make a few more bucks.
On the flip side, a big BOO! to Circuit City for laying off 3400 employees because they did their job to well and earned raises. And again, I will not broke any responses of "It's a business and you have to pay your employees crap or get rid of them in order to compete!" That is what's wrong with the entire world. Stop competing already and give the person next to you a hug.
Lastly, I have to do laundry tonight. I hate laundry.
